  • ARI Starting Pitcher #23
Zac Gallen had to be removed from Saturday’s start against the Phillies in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury.
Gallen winced in pain after delivering a pitch in the fifth inning, prompting a visit from the training staff and his ultimate removal. It appeared to be something lower body — perhaps a groin issue — and didn’t appear to be related to his arm at all. The Diamondbacks should have an update on his status shortly. Gallen had allowed one run on five hits and a pair of walks over 4 1/3 innings before exiting.
  • SEA Third Baseman #35
Mariners sent INF Jason Vosler outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Vosler went unclaimed despite putting up excellent numbers in the minors with Triple-A Tacoma. He’ll be a minor-league free agent at the end of the 2024 campaign.
  • TOR Shortstop #49
Leo Jiménez is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Mets.
Jiménez was hit in the foot for the fifth time in seven games, and it’s at least in part due to him being hit in the foot earlier in the month. Blue Jays manager John Schneider said the foot is still “pretty sore” and that the team is being careful with the 23-year-old as the season comes to a close. It’s also worth noting that Ernie Clement has been one of Toronto’s best offensive players, so that has a little something to do with Jiménez lack of consistent time, as well.
  • TOR Shortstop #11
Bo Bichette (calf) won’t play Wednesday for Triple-A Syracuse during his rehab assignment.
Bichette played four innings while going 1-for-3 during his rehab appearance for Syracuse on Tuesday. Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that the 26-year-old was “on his feet more than planned” so the team will give him a day off before he returns to the lineup Thursday. If all goes well, Bichette has a chance to join Toronto in the middle of Setember.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #40
Braves placed RHP Reynaldo López on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
The Braves were said to be somewhat encouraged after initial tests on López’s arm last night, but an IL stint always seemed likely. They could go to Bryce Elder, A.J. Smith-Shawver or maybe even Ian Anderson in his place next time through the rotation. It might help Anderson’s case some that he started last night and his schedule lines up with López’s.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #62
Braves recalled RHP Daysbel Hernández from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Hernández’s has received limited opportunity because the Braves pen has been filled with unoptionable pitchers, but he’s allowed just two runs — one earned — in 11 innings while in the majors this season. This might be another brief stint, since the Braves will need to add a fifth starter next week.
  • ATL Second Baseman #6
Braves selected the contract of INF/OF Cavan Biggio from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Biggio, acquired from the Giants last week, joins the Braves after just one game for Gwinnett, in which he went 1-for-5 with an RBI while playing second base. He’ll presumably be the new stopgap at second with Ozzie Albies and Whit Merrifield sidelined. The 29-year-old has batted .197/.316/.306 in 219 plate appearances for the Jays and Braves this season. Luke Williams was demoted to make room for him.
  • ATL Third Baseman #65
Braves optioned INF/OF Luke Williams to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Williams had started the last four games in a row with Whit Merrifield out, but he’s still the choice to get the boot here, even though Adam Duvall and Eli White aren’t playing at all. Williams has hit .196/.275/.261 in 52 plate appearances for the Braves.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #64
Braves designated RHP Jimmy Herget for assignment.
Herget had spent the last few weeks in Triple-A. He made eight appearances for the Braves earlier this season, pitching to a 4.38 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
  • MIA Second Baseman #24
Connor Norby is starting at third base Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s game with a sore foot.
He’s leading off today, as Xavier Edwards is again absent from the lineup for some undisclosed reason.
  • PIT Center Fielder #22
Andrew McCutchen is out of the lineup for Wednesday’s matinee against the Marlins.
This appears to be a consequence of the Pirates wanting to give Bryan Reynolds a partial day off as a DH and also find another start for Billy Cook. McCutchen, who hit his 20th homer last night, isn’t currently an outfield option after a series of minor to moderate leg injuries the last couple of months.
