Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Red Sox’ pitching prospect Payton Tolle will make his Major League debut on Friday night against the Pirates.
The 22-year-old hurler was the Red Sox’ second-round pick from the 2024 draft class. He has already climbed three levels in his first professional season — posting a 3.04 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 133/23 K/BB ratio over 91 2/3 innings between High-A Greenville, Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. It’s unclear if he’ll stick in the Red Sox’ rotation, or if this will just be a spot start for him. Either way, he makes for an intriguing streaming option against the Pirates on Friday evening.
