Slaten is still a couple of weeks away from a rehab assignment, but he could be back before the end of August if all goes as hoped.

Vargas was attempting to corral a throw at first base when Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge ran into his arm and bent back his wrist. The 25-year-old infielder appeared to be in a significant amount of pain afterwards and after consulting with the training staff he was lifted from the game. He’ll presumably head for imaging just to make sure there’s no structural damage. Expect the White Sox to provide an update on his status after the game.

The Mets removed the 28-year-old hurler from their 40-man roster earlier in the week but he went unclaimed on waivers and will stick around as extra bullpen depth. He has done a nice job in three games out of the Mets’ bullpen this season, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 5/2 K/BB ratio across three innings.

The 26-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Monday and it sounds like he’ll accept the outright assignment to Triple-A. Kennedy went just 1-for-17 with one RBI in his limited action with the Dodgers.

The 22-year-old hurler was the Red Sox’ second-round pick from the 2024 draft class. He has already climbed three levels in his first professional season — posting a 3.04 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a 133/23 K/BB ratio over 91 2/3 innings between High-A Greenville, Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. It’s unclear if he’ll stick in the Red Sox’ rotation, or if this will just be a spot start for him. Either way, he makes for an intriguing streaming option against the Pirates on Friday evening.

The 28-year-old infielder had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He passed through waivers unclaimed and the A’s granted him his outright release. Urías hit just .230/.315/.338 with eight homers, 25 RBI, two stolen bases and a 45/31 K/BB ratio across 330 plate appearances with the A’s this season. He’s now free to peddle his wares on the open market.

The 30-year-old hurler elected free agency last week rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake, but after exploring the open market he decided that a return to the Angels made the most sense for him. He has registered a 5.30 ERA over 37 1/3 innings in 37 appearances with the Halos this season.

Adames gave the Giants an early 2-1 advantage as he ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Shota Imanaga for a 417-foot (107.0 mph EV) two-run blast in the home half of the first inning. He then launched a game-tying, 400-foot (102.4 mph EV) solo shot off of another Imanaga fastball in the sixth inning. Adames has struggled offensively in his first season with the Giants, slashing an underwhelming .224/.313/.415 with 24 homers, 69 RBI and seven stolen bases in 566 plate appearances.

The Giants got things started as Casey Schmitt smacked a one-out single into center off of Cubs’ closer Daniel Palencia. Wilmer Flores then followed with a single of his own, moving the winning run into scoring position. Christian Koss pinch ran for Schmitt and raced around to score as Lee deposited a 1-1 slider into right field for the game-winning knock. The 27-year-old outfielder finished the day 2-for-4 and is now hitting .261/.323/.409 with seven long balls, 48 RBI and 10 stolen bases on the season.

Walker was called upon to face Nico Hoerner with a man on first base and two outs with the score tied in the top half of the ninth inning. He needed just four pitches to get the job done, getting Hoerner to fly out to center field. He then became the beneficiary when the Giants walked it off in the home half. With Randy Rodriguez (elbow) sidelined, look for Walker to see the bulk of the save chances for the Giants down the stretch.

Webb scattered seven hits on the day and didn’t walk a batter. The Cubs scratched out a run against him in the opening inning on an RBI single by Ian Happ. They then added solo shots by Dansby Swanson in the second and Michael Busch in the sixth. The 28-year-old right-hander got 13 swings and misses on 94 pitches on the afternoon, posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He’ll carry a 12-9 record, 3.16 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 187/37 K/BB ratio (173 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s showdown against the Rockies in Colorado.
