DJ LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with two RBI and the game winning hit for the Yankees in their 4-3 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
LeMahieu was the hero in this one with his 10th inning single to win the game. There was a funny moment beforehand where the Blue Jays pulled Joey Loperfido in from the outfield to be a fifth infielder and they positioned him between the first and second basemen, where LeMahieu has hit a lot of ground balls this season. Of course, this one was smacked right up the middle and LeMahieu got the job done. It’s still been a disastrous season for the infielder.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from Monday’s series opener against the Pirates with left hamstring tightness.
Guerrero was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning after going 0-for-2 with an RBI. He also made a phenomenal defensive play at first base, extending into a full split to dig out a short hop throw. It’s possible he hurt himself on that specific play. He’ll presumably head for further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the ailment. There should be an update from the Blue Jays following the contest.
Wheeler placed on IL with blood clot in shoulder
With Zack Wheeler headed to the IL because of a blood clot in his shoulder, James Schiano expects an extended absence while Philadelphia loses a vital part of its rotation.
  • NYM Catcher #4
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said late Sunday that Francisco Alvarez will undergo an MRI on his right thumb.
Alvarez made an early exit from Sunday’s game against the Mariners after jamming his right thumb. He will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. There should be an update on his status prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Nationals.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #26
Reds manager Terry Francona said in an interview with MLB Network Radio that Chase Burns (elbow) was scheduled to resume throwing on Monday.
Francona added that he believes he’ll make it back rather quickly. The dynamic 22-year-old top prospect, who has struck out 57 batters over 34 1/3 innings (eight starts) since arriving in the big leagues was diagnosed with a Grade 1 flexor strain last week. It certainly sounds like he’ll be back at some point in early September.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #10
Casey Schmitt (forearm) is back in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Padres.
Schmitt is back at the hot corner and batting cleanup following a quick two-game absence over the weekend nursing a right hand contusion. The 26-year-old should see regular action at third base while Matt Chapman (hand) remains on the injured list.
  • SF 3rd Baseman #26
Matt Chapman (hand) is scheduled to resume hitting on Wednesday.
It’s a positive development that Chapman is ready to resume taking on-field batting practice already after landing back on the injured list over the weekend with right hand inflammation. The 32-year-old third baseman might be able to skip a rehab assignment altogether and return to San Francisco’s lineup early next week.
  • BAL 2nd Baseman #11
Jordan Westburg was removed from Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox with right ankle discomfort.
Westburg can’t seem to catch a break. The timing is extremely unfortunate as it comes on the heels of a four-hit, five-RBI performance during Sunday’s slugfest against the Astros. The 26-year-old infielder stumbled while rounding second base in the opening frame and was immediately lifted from the contest after a consultation with team trainers. He’ll head for further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the injury. There should be an update on his status following the game.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #50
Monday’s doubleheader nightcap between the Brewers and Cubs has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Let’s try this again. It’ll be made up on Tuesday as a split doubleheader at Wrigley Field. Jameson Taillon is slated to come off the injured list to take the ball for the second contest of the twin bill with Matthew Boyd handling the front-end. It’ll be Chad Patrick and Brandon Woodruff drawing the starting assignments for the sizzling-hot Brewers.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #55
Cole Ragans (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Monday.
Ragans is making gradual progress in his recovery from a rotator cuff strain that put him on the shelf back on June 11. The 27-year-old fantasy ace has begun to incorporate breaking balls into his throwing sessions and ramp up his velocity. He’ll likely progress to facing hitters at some point before the end of August with the goal of making it back to Kansas City in September.
  • CIN Catcher #37
Tyler Stephenson (thumb) remains out of the lineup for the third consecutive game on Monday against the Angels.
Stephenson remains on Cincinnati’s bench as he continues to battle left thumb soreness that has kept him out since last Friday. He suffered the injury a couple weeks ago and has been playing through it. It’ll be Jose Trevino handling the catching duties on Monday night in his absence.
  • LAD Catcher #16
Will Smith is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rockies.
Smith takes a seat after making four consecutive starts behind the dish, including a day game after a night contest, for the first time in a couple months. It’ll be top prospect Dalton Rushing handling the catching duties on Monday night at Coors Field.
