  • MIN Center Fielder #25

The Twins announced that Byron Buxton’s exit from Sunday’s contest against the White Sox was simply a precautionary measure.
The club had planned on taking Buxton out of the game anyways given their large lead at the time, so him crashing into the wall in center field made that call even easier. He was checked out by the Twins’ medical staff and no issues were found, so he shouldn’t need to miss any time going forward.

Yoán Moncada left Saturday’s game against the Mariners with an apparent hand injury.
Moncada was plunked in the hand with two strikes and looked to be in a good deal of pain. The infielder will likely undergo imaging to see if there’s any structural damage, and there should be an update on his status before Sunday’s finale against Seattle.
Jones' power production can't be ignored
James Schiano evaluates the potential of New York Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones, explaining why the 24-year-old outfielder's power production can't be ignored as he's compiled 29 home runs in the minors this season.
  • SF Center Fielder #51
Jung Hoo Lee went 3-for-4 with an RBI in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.
Lee drove in the only run of the game for the Giants on a fielder’s choice. He singled twice and doubled to improve his average to .254 on the season. After his disastrous June, Lee has been much better in July with a .314 average over 66 at-bats.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #39
Edwin Díaz fired a scoreless ninth to get a save versus the Giants on Saturday.
Díaz gave up a double to Jung Hoo Lee, but kept Lee from advancing any further while picking up a strikeout and not issuing a walk. His ERA is now 1.51 on the season, and he’s picked up 22 saves on the year. Díaz only needed 14 pitches to get through the inning, so he has a chance to pitch again Sunday if necessary.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #23
David Peterson allowed just a run over six innings to get a win over the Giants on Saturday.
Peterson had to work around a lot of traffic to limit the Giants to just the lone run, as he gave up eight hits and also issues three free passes. Still, he kept San Francisco completely off the board outside of a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning off that bat of Jung Hoo Lee. Peterson now has an ERA of 2.83 and a record of 7-4, with a K/BB of 101/41 for good measure. He gets the Giants again next weekend.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #38
Robbie Ray took a loss while allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings versus the Mets on Saturday.
Ray had to work hard to get through those 5 2/3 frames, as he gave up three walks and five hits with three strikeouts to bring his pitch total to a whopping 102. The fact he was able to limit the damage to just two runs is credit to Ray, but it was far from an aesthetically-pleasing start. It also isn’t a win because the Giants gave him just a run of support. Ray will face the Mets again next weekend.
  • CLE Left Fielder #38
Steven Kwan hit a two-run homer and walked as the Guardians topped the Royals 6-4 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Kwan has three homers in three games after hitting a total of six in his first 95 games. He’s batting .292/.433/.667 in 30 plate appearances since the All-Star break.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #28
Tanner Bibee struck out eight while allowing four runs in five innings in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Royals.
Bibee, who gave up two-run homers to Freddy Fermin and Bobby Witt Jr., got the win, making him 7-9 with a 4.39 ERA. It’s the third time this season that he’s struck out at least eight, though his 21.2% K rate is way off last year’s mark of 26.3%. Still, a 107/33 K/BB isn’t too bad. He’ll face the Twins next week.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #48
Emmanuel Clase bounced back from a blown save in game one to pitch a perfect ninth for a save in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Royals.
Clase threw 12 pitches in game two after using 15 in giving up a three-run homer in the first game. We imagine he’ll be down Sunday after this, potentially leading to a save chance for Cade Smith.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Blake Snell (shoulder) allowed no runs over 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts in a rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Snell, 32, did walk four and allowed four hits, but it’s encouraging to see him missing bats once again in his second rehab start at the Triple-A level. The left-hander may need to make one more rehab start before he joins the Dodgers’ rotation, but he should be up well before the end of August if there are no setbacks.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #50
Kris Bubic admitted to shoulder stiffness after giving up four runs — three earned — and walking four in 2 2/3 innings in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Guardians.
It’s something he’s been dealing with for a while, apparently. Something always figured to come up here, given that Bubic has been on pace to make 30 starts after throwing 16 and 30 1/3 innings the previous two years. He’s at 116 1/3 innings right now. It’s unclear whether he intends to keep pitching through it, but the smart play for the Royals might be to give him some time off.
