Peter Fairbanks tossed a scoreless ninth inning and got the save against the Astros on Sunday.
Fairbanks’ save was his 21st of the season. He struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning. Fairbanks has a 2.95 ERA on the year. He remains a very reliable fantasy closer.

Pirates signed first-round pick Seth Hernandez to a contract with a $7.25 million bonus.
Hernandez, the first high school pitcher selected this year, takes just below the slot value of $7.56 million as the No. 6 pick. He was committed to Vanderbilt, but there was never any real chance that he’d get there.
Dodgers relievers to add following Scott's injury
With the Dodgers "all but a lock" to add a reliever before the trade deadline following Tanner Scott's injury, Eric Samulski assesses which arms could be in line for precious save opportunities.
  • MIN Catcher #64
Twins claimed C Jhonny Pereda off waivers from the Athletics and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul.
The Twins feel they’re upgrading their third catcher spot here with Pereda taking the place of Jair Camargo on the 40-man. They’ll likely try hard to move Christian Vazquez if they decide to sell prior to the deadline, so there’s the chance Pereda will finish the year as Ryan Jeffers’ backup. The 29-year-old has hit .203/.267/.228 in 86 major league plate appearances with the Marlins and A’s, but his Triple-A line of .296/.387/.412 over 234 games is far more impressive.
  • MIN Catcher #77
Twins designated C Jair Camargo for assignment.
Camargo, who got into five games for the Twins last season, had spent all year at Triple-A St. Paul and hit .212/.258/.319 in 31 games. This is his first time on waivers, so he’ll have to stay with the club if he clears.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #45
Nationals selected the contract of LHP Konnor Pilkington from Triple-A Rochester.
Pilkington, who had a 3.75 ERA in 11 starts and five relief appearances for the Guardians in 2022 and ’23, is back in the majors for the first time in two years. He had a 2.59 ERA in three starts and 33 relief appearances for Rochester, striking out 50 and walking 27 in 41 2/3 innings. Expect him to pitch in middle relief.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #71
Nationals optioned RHP Mason Thompson to Triple-A Rochester.
Thompson had given up six runs and walked six in four innings since returning from Tommy John surgery earlier this month. The Nats will give him some more minor league time and hope he’s throwing better when he’ll probably be needed next month.
  • WSH Right Fielder #3
Nationals transferred OF Dylan Crews from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
No setback for Crews. He’s already missed 60 days, so the Nats are opening up his 40-man roster spot for Konnor Pilkington, delaying any difficult decisions about who to drop. Crews, coming back from an oblique strain, is expected to begin a rehab assignment before the end of the week.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #65
White Sox activated RHP Davis Martin from the 15-day injured list.
Martin, out since June 12 with a forearm strain, will rejoin the White Sox rotation tonight against the Rays. He allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings in his two rehab starts.
  • CWS Relief Pitcher #66
White Sox optioned RHP Wikelman González to Triple-A Charlotte.
González pitched one scoreless inning in his second stint with the White Sox. He still needs to cut down on the walks before he’ll be taken seriously as a bullpen option; he’s issued 34 in 40 2/3 innings in the minors this season.
  • ATL 3rd Baseman #27
Austin Riley will not come off the injured list for Tuesday’s game against the Giants.
Expectations were that Riley would be back today. No word yet on if he’s had an actual setback with his abdominal strain or just needs one or two more days. Given that the Braves have Thursday off, if they’re not activating him tonight, it seems likely that they’ll hold off until Friday.
  • DET Relief Pitcher
The Tigers have moved reliever RJ Petit up to Triple-A Toledo.
One of the biggest pitchers in baseball, Petit, 25, is listed at 6-foot-8 and 300 pounds. He had a 2.28 ERA and a 46/12 K/BB in 43 1/3 innings for Double-A Erie, and if he keeps it up at the new level, he could be a candidate for the Tigers pen sometime soon.
