Rangers placed LHP Jacob Latz on the 15-day injured list with left forearm tightness.
No injury is good. Forearm tightness is often among the worst you’ll see, but the Rangers don’t believe this will require any type of surgery. The left-hander will miss at least two weeks, however, and Brock Burke is up from Triple-A Round Rock to take his spot on the roster.

Rockies recalled RHP Anthony Molina from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Molina, 23, is up for the second time this season after throwing a scoreless inning of relief in his previous stint. The right-hander will take the roster spot of Carson Palmquist, who was optioned to Triple-A after Thursday’s start.
Anthony a worthy longshot bet for AL ROTY
With Jacob Wilson as a heavy favorite to win American League Rookie of the Year, Vaughn Dalzell makes the case for Roman Anthony as a longshot bet with value to monitor as the season rolls on.
  • HOU Shortstop #86
Astros INF prospect Brice Matthews went 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored for Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old is on fire right now. Over his last 30 games, Matthews is hitting .308/.424/.607 with 14 extra base hits, including seven home runs, plus 24 RBI, and nine steals. That has amounted to a 165 wRC+. He’s knocking on the door for an MLB promotion.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #38
Alex Cobb (hip) allowed one run on one hit in two innings for Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Cobb also walked three and struck out two. He threw just 26 of his 49 pitches for strikes. He’ll likely need at least two more starts at this rate, unless the Tigers feel like calling him up to form a piggyback situation with Sawyer Gipson-Long, whose innings are being limited while returning from surgery.
  • BOS Center Fielder #91
Red Sox OF prospect Jhostynxon Garcia went 1-for-5 with a solo home run for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old is now hitting .342 in 18 games since being promoted to Triple-A with five home runs, 11 RBI, and a 29/18 K/BB ratio. The Red Sox’s crowded outfield makes it unlikely that Garcia will debut this season, but he could be an attractive trade chip at the deadline to help the Red Sox bolster their starting rotation for a playoff push.
  • COL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia is starting at first base and batting seventh against the Giants on Thursday.
Arcia has now started in three of the last four games, with two of those starts coming at first base. The Rockies seem interested in getting his bat in the lineup and may be souring on Keston Hiura, who has gone 3-for-16 with six strikeouts and no walks in seven starts with the Rockies.
  • COL Catcher #15
Hunter Goodman is not in the starting lineup for the Rockies on Thursday against the Giants.
Goodman has started the last eight games and 13 of the team’s last 14 contests, so this is just a routine off-day. Braxton Fulford will catch and bat ninth, while Jordan Beck will slide to DH, and Sam Hilliard will enter the lineup in left field and bat second.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #62
Allan Winans allowed two runs on six hits in five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old also struck out eight and walked one on the day. He’s carrying a 0.61 ERA in 44 innings at Triple-A and could get an MLB start if Ryan Yarbrough can’t rebound from his poor outing last week. Yarbrough also has experience as a bulk reliever if the Yankees wanted to keep both pitching regularly.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Landon Knack allowed four runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Knack walked three and struck out eight, while giving up two extra base hits, including a solo home run. The 27-year-old has struggled in the big league rotation this year, and with Emmett Sheehan (elbow) close to a return and Ben Casparius now moved into the rotation, it seems like we may not see Knack get another big league start for a while.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #32
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that Aaron Civale has requested a trade from the Brewers.
Civale was removed from the rotation this week when the Brewers decided to promote Jacob Misiorowski, and he was not happy about becoming a reliever. Civale pitched well in 14 starts after joining Milwaukee last season, posting a 3.53 ERA. He hurt his hamstring early this season but has registered a 3.32 ERA over 19 innings in four starts since returning on May 22. He’ll be a free agent at the end of the season and could be a solid back-end starter for a contender in the second half of the season.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #45
Keegan Akin will serve as an opener for Baltimore on Thursday against the Tigers.
Dean Kremer had been listed as the starter, and perhaps the Orioles are simply using the left-handed Akin to counter Tigers’ hitters like Riley Greene and Kerry Carpenter near the top of the lineup.
