Andrew McCutchen was diagnosed with left quad tightness after being removed from Saturday night’s battle against the Diamondbacks.
He is currently being treated by the Pirates’ medical staff. McCutchen suffered the injury while running out of the batter’s box on his single in the sixth inning. He’ll continue to be evaluated, but for the time being he’s being listed as day-to-day. Don’t be surprised if he sits out on Sunday as a precautionary measure.

Brandon Lowe (side) is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s tilt against the Tigers.
Lowe will miss his third straight game while dealing with discomfort in his side. The 31-year-old is still considered day-to-day, but Taylor Walls will get another start at the keystone and hit eighth while Lowe recovers.
Yoshida 'is really valuable' ahead of season debut
Eric Samulski explain why Masataka Yoshida is a player to target as he gets set to make his season debut for the Boston Red Sox after missing the first half of the season with a shoulder injury.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #68
Red Sox transferred RHP Nick Burdi from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Burdi is now off the 40-man roster, and the Red Sox needed that room to clear a spot for Masataka Yoshida (shoulder). Burdi is eligible to come off the injured list from his foot bruise on August 3.
  • BAL Catcher #35
Adley Rutschman told reporters Wednesday that he’s making progress from his strained oblique, but there’s no timetable for a return.
Rutschman has been able to play catch and due some running and has played catch, but hasn’t progressed further than that. The 27-year-old will assuredly be back through the All-Star break, and then there’s a chance — but no guarantee — he could be back behind the plate by the end of July.
  • BOS Left Fielder #7
Red Sox activated OF Masataka Yoshida off the 60-day injured list.
Yoshida will finally make his season debut after missing the first three-plus months of the season due to offseason shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old is expected to be the designated hitter for most of his appearances, but also could see time at first base and in the corner outfield. He’s not an elite fantasy option, but there’s enough here for him to be a helper in a few categories for those in need.Ceddanne Rafaela will get Wednesday off with Yoshida back.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #2
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Wednesday that he believes there’s a “really good chance” that Alex Bregman (quad) could play before the All-Star break.
Bregman isn’t going to play in the All-Star game because of his quad injury, but there’s a chance we see him in a regular season bout before that break. The 31-year-old won’t be rushed back, but assuming there’s no setback, there’s reason to believe he’s back in the lineup (relatively) soon.
  • SEA Center Fielder #26
Mariners sent OF Jacob Hurtubise outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Hurtubise will remain in the organization after being removed from the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old will be a depth piece in whatever organization he plays in.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #43
Marlins designated RHP Nick Nastrini for assignment.
Nastrini was claimed off waivers on July 1, and hits the waiver wire a little over a week later. A former top prospect, Nastrini could see interest again on the wire, but if not he’ll report back to Triple-A Jacksonville.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #53
Marlins claimed RHP Tyler Zuber off waivers from the Mets.
Zuber was then optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment Saturday, and will have a chance to help the Marlins’ bullpen at some point tis summer.
  • MIL Right Fielder #37
Brewers acquired OF Steward Berroa from the Dodgers for cash considerations.
The Brewers then placed Berroa on the minor-league injured list with right elbow bursitis. Berroa was designated for assignment Thursday, and will be a depth piece for Milwaukee for the remainder of 2025.
  • DET Shortstop #28
Javier Báez is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Rays.
Báez will grab a seat on the bench to close out the series finale against Tampa Bay. He’ll rest with Colt Keith playing third base and Zach McKinstry lining up at shortstop.
