Jerar Encarnación hit a pinch-hit home run in a loss to the Reds on Saturday.
Encarnación went 0-for-4 in his first start since being promoted but showed why the Giants brought him up with an eighth-inning blast as a pinch hitter. The 26-year-old hit .352 with a 1.054 OPS and 33 RBI in 33 games with Triple-A and could be given a chance to provide the right-handed power bat that the Giants presumably lost when they traded Jorge Soler. He doesn’t have a starting job yet but is a name to keep an eye on.

Jose Siri (leg) has been shut down from his recovery from a fractured left tibia after suffering a setback.
Recent testing revealed that his fractured tibia hadn’t healed quite as well as anticipated, so the Mets will back off of his rehab to give him some more time to recover. He will be shut down from baseball activities for at least a couple of weeks before undergoing additional imaging to see how it has progressed. At this stage, there’s no clear timeline for when he may be able to rejoin the Mets.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • NYM Left Fielder #3
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Friday that Jesse Winker (oblique) is still weeks away from starting a minor league rehab assignment.
When he landed on the injured list in early May, Winker was given an initial timeline of around 6-8 weeks with his right oblique strain. We’re almost at the six-week mark now, so he’s trending towards being just outside that initial estimation. Barring any setbacks, he should be able to rejoin the Mets before the All-Star break.
  • WSH Relief Pitcher #58
Derek Law (forearm) is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Saturday and if all goes well the expectation is that he’ll be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment.
Law, 34, has been sidelined since spring training due to inflammation in his forearm. He has made slow and steady progress in his recovery though and is finally getting to the point where he’s ready to test things out against minor league competition. The Nationals are going to continue to take a cautious approach here, but if all goes according to plan he could be ready to help out the Nationals’ bullpen before the end of June.
  • WSH Shortstop #14
Paul DeJong (face) could be ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment early next week.
The 31-year-old infielder will visit with the doctor on Saturday and as long as everything goes well there he’ll be cleared to return to live game action. DeJong has been shelved since mid-April following surgery to repair his sinuses and orbital plate that he suffered when he was hit in the face with a pitch. He’s going to require plenty of at-bats in the minor leagues before he’s ready to help out the Nationals.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #71
Mason Thompson (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Saturday.
The 27-year-old hurler is working his way back from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last February. He’s obviously going to require a lengthy build up, which will begin with the club’s Florida Complex League affiliate on Saturday. As long as he avoids any setbacks, he could be ready to return at some point around the All-Star break.
  • CWS Shortstop #50
Lenyn Sosa (hip) went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in his first minor league rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Sosa landed on the injured list on June 4 with a right hip flexor strain and at the time the White Sox were hopeful that he wouldn’t require much longer than a minimum stint on the injured list. He appears to be on track to return early next week provided that things go smoothly at Charlotte throughout the weekend.
  • SD Right Fielder #22
Jason Heyward (oblique) went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in his first minor league rehab game at Triple-A El Paso on Friday evening.
Heyward is working his way back from a left oblique strain that has shelved him since May 24. It’s not clear how many at-bats he’ll need there before he’s ready to return at help out the Padres at the big league level. Prior to landing on the injured list, the 35-year-old was slashing an anemic .176/.223/.271 with two homers and 12 RBI over his first 95 plate appearances with the Padres.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #22
Ernie Clement (lower body) went 1-for-4 on Friday against the Phillies in his return to the lineup.
Clement was back at third base following an early exit from Wednesday’s contest with the Cardinals with a lower-body injury. It doesn’t appear to be a serious concern moving forward.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #68
Nick Burdi (foot) started a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Worcester on Friday.
The 32-year-old hurler has been shelved since the beginning of June due to a right foot contusion that he suffered while covering first base during a game against the Angels. Since he hasn’t had a long layoff, he should only require a couple of tune-ups at the Triple-A level before he’s ready to return to the Red Sox’ bullpen.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #37
Porter Hodge (oblique, hip) fired a perfect inning in his first minor league rehab outing at Triple-A Iowa on Friday night.
The 24-year-old right-hander retired all three hitters that he faced in order, including a punchout, and needed just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done. He’ll probably need at least one additional outing there, and if he looks as sharp as he did on Friday night it seems likely that he’ll be cleared to join the Cubs’ bullpen.
