Madris knocked a base hit in the fourth inning, then doubled in the sixth before scoring on a single by Andy Ibáñez. Madris later came up in a big spot in the ninth, taking Hunter Harvey deep for a solo homer to bring the Tigers within a run before their comeback victory.

No surprise here as O’Neill is battling some general soreness and the club wants to stay away from him over the next couple days. The power-hitting 30-year-old corner outfielder should be ready to return to Baltimore’s lineup at some point later this week.

Pederson took live batting practice on Wednesday afternoon without any issues and will kick off an extended rehab assignment later this week. The 33-year-old DH has been out since late May recovering from a fractured right hand.

It’s a rare night off for Butler, who launched his 14th homer of the season during Tuesday’s loss at Globe Life Field. The 25-year-old spark plug takes a seat with veteran southpaw Patrick Corbin toeing the rubber for Texas on Wednesday night. He’s hitting .195/.244/.390 this season against left-handed pitching. It’ll be Jacob Wilson bumping up to the leadoff spot with fellow rookie Colby Thomas patrolling center field.

Mountcastle is eligible to be activated off the 60-day injured list on July 30, but it sounds like the Orioles may give him some additional time based on comments from interim manager Tony Mansolino. The 28-year-old first baseman has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a hamstring strain.

Anthony will get a mental break during Wednesday’s series finale after going 1-for-9 with eight strikeouts over his previous two games. The 21-year-old prodigy has looked like the real deal in spurts since arriving in the majors back in early June, but he’s definitely striking out at a higher rate than the Red Sox would like to see. It’ll be Wilyer Abreu in right field on Wednesday night in his place.

Varsho has appeared in four rehab contests between Low-A Dunedin and the Rookie-level Florida Complex League already. He’ll face some higher level competition later this week before returning to Toronto’s outfield mix. The 29-year-old center fielder has been out since late May recovering from a hamstring strain.

Stanton takes a seat after starting six of the previous seven games for New York at DH. The 35-year-old veteran slugger is hitting .292 (14-for-48) with five homers and 14 RBI in 15 games since the start of July. It’ll be Aaron Judge getting a break from the field on Wednesday evening with Cody Bellinger heading out to right field with Trent Grisham and Jasson Domínguez rounding out the rest of the outfield.

The homer was a leadoff blast against Brock Burke in the first. Nimmo’s OPS by month this year: .677, .762, .879 and now .920. If the trend continues, he’ll match Aaron Judge by Aug. 2026.

Mike Trout’s homer was the only damage. Manaea struck out five and walked two in a pretty easy outing. It’s his first win in three games since returning from an oblique strain. He’ll be well worth using in mixed leagues against the Padres next week.

Díaz came on with two outs and one on in the eighth and hit Taylor Ward to bring the tying run to the plate. He then threw six pitches to Luis Rengifo. None of them were in the strike zone or were swung at by Rengifo. Still, Díaz was credited with a strikeout by Erich Bacchus anyway, which resulted in Angels interim manager Ray Montgomery getting tossed. The ninth also started eventfully, as Díaz hit Chris Taylor in the helmet with his first pitch of the frame. Thankfully, Taylor was okay, and Díaz retired three in a row from there. It’s his 21st save.
