He’s starting to be rewarded for it, too; he has four homers in his last eight games, matching his total from his first 54 games this season and also the 81 games he played last year.

Chris Bassitt limited the Phillies to one run and five hits over seven innings Thursday.

Bassitt got eight runs to work with in the first three innings, so he had an easy time securing his sixth win today. Pounding the strike zone, he completed seven innings for the first time this year and moved to 6-3 with a 3.56 ERA. He’ll face the Cardinals next week.

Jesus Luzardo

PHI Starting Pitcher #44

Jesús Luzardo was lit up for a second straight outing Thursday, surrendering eight runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays.

Luzardo was on the short list of the game’s best pitches over the first two months. Now, he’s given up 20 runs in two starts, taking his ERA from 2.15 all of the way up to 4.46. Luzardo just couldn’t stop the bleeding in the second and third today. His velocity was fine, and only five of the 15 balls in play against him were hard-hit. We’re not worried about him at this point, though we wouldn’t blame anyone for sitting him down for his home start against the Cubs next week.

Myles Straw

Myles Straw went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base against the Phillies on Thursday.

It’s just the third three-RBI game of his career; he had one with the Astros in 2021 and one with the Guardians in 2022. That Straw is batting .286/.318/.371 in 114 plate appearances for the Blue Jays is pretty remarkable. Before spending almost all of last year in the minors, he hit .229/.296/.284 for the Guardians between 2022 and ’23. He came in at .240/.321/.329 in 123 Triple-A games last season.

Rangers activated RHP Chris Martin from the 15-day injured list.

The 39-year-old right-hander will take the place of Kumar Rocker on the Rangers’ active roster. Martin has been shelved since May 19 due to fatigue in his pitching shoulder. Prior to landing on the injured list, he had compiled a stellar 1.83 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 23/3 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings of work while notching one save. He could push Robert Garcia for save chances once he settles back in.

Rangers optioned RHP Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock.

Fresh off the injured list, the 25-year-old right-hander was blasted for five runs on six hits and a pair of walks over 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. Rather than taking the ball again next week, the Rangers will have him work to get back on track in a minor league setting for now. It’s unclear who will start in his place on Tuesday against the Twins in Minneapolis.

Shea Langeliers was removed from Thursday’s game against the Twins due to left flank soreness.

The 27-year-old backstop had been 1-for-4 with a double and a pair of strikeouts prior to exiting. The severity of the injury is not yet known and with the Athletics holding a nine-run lead in the contest, it’s possible that they were just being overly cautious. Expect manager Mark Kotsay to provide an update on Langeliers’ status after Thursday’s game concludes.

The 30-year-old right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Omaha just before the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader and now finds himself in roster limbo despite the fact that he didn’t pitch in that contest. It seems likely that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as depth for the Royals.

The 27-year-old southpaw will make his triumphant return to the Royals’ rotation for the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals. He has been shelved since the middle of May due to a left groin strain. Prior to landing on the shelf, Ragans had registered a 4.53 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 72/13 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings through his first nine starts. Fantasy managers can feel confidant rolling him out there against the Cardinals on Thursday evening.
