Mets RHP prospect Brandon Sproat recorded 13 strikeouts over five scoreless innings on Friday for Double-A Binghamton.
Fresh off a highly-impressive outing a couple weeks ago at the MLB Futures Game, Sproat authored one of the more dominant pitching performances of the season on Friday evening, piling up an eye-popping 21 swinging strikes, and striking out the final 11 batters he faced en route to his second double-digit strikeout effort of the year. The 23-year-old right-hander has been arguably the fastest-rising pitching prospect this season for fantasy purposes as he’s recorded a sublime 2.05 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 110/31 K/BB ratio across 87 2/3 innings (17 appearances, 16 starts) between High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamtom. It might be unrealistic to expect him to reach New York before the current season wraps up, but he’s going to enter the 2025 campaign as one of the top pitching prospects in the game.

Matt Chapman (hand) went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored on Friday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Sacramento.
Chapman appears likely to rejoin San Francisco’s lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Giants after getting five innings under his belt at the hot corner during Friday’s rehab contest. The 32-year-old defensive stalwart has been out since early June recovering from a right hand strain. There should be an official update on his status ahead of Saturday’s contest in Sacramento.
Hold Muncy if placed on injured list
Eric Samulski advises fantasy managers to "hold" Max Muncy if placed on the injured list, who has produced in a big way since the beginning of May, and discusses the outlook for Dodgers' call-up Esteury Ruiz.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #43
X-rays came back negative for any fractures on Lance McCullers Jr.'s left foot.
McCullers told reporters after firing six innings of one-run ball on Friday evening at Dodger Stadium that his left foot “went numb for a little while” after being struck by a line drive from Shohei Ohtani, but added that he managed to avoid serious injury. The 31-year-old should be ready to make his next start on Wednesday against the Guardians.
  • ARI Center Fielder #7
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Friday that Corbin Carroll (wrist) is on track to make an imminent return.
Lovullo declined to say exactly when Carroll will rejoin Arizona’s lineup, but it sounds like it could potentially be at some point this weekend. The 24-year-old has gotten a handful of rehab games under his belt in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League as he works his way back at a remarkably-fast pace from a fractured left wrist.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #31
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) will likely make his next start in the majors.
Glasnow appears poised to make his next start in the majors after striking out eight and throwing 78 pitches (51 strikes) on Thursday in his final minor league rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 31-year-old fantasy ace has been on the shelf since late April working his way back from shoulder issues. He’ll certainly provide a boost for fantasy managers in the second half, assuming he manages to avoid landing back on the injured list.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #78
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters following Friday’s blowout loss that Ben Casparius is being moved back to the bullpen.
Casparius, who was torched for six runs over three innings on Friday night against Houston, has been hit extremely hard since ostensibly joining Los Angeles’ starting rotation in a regular bulk role a couple weeks ago. The decision paves the way for Emmet Sheehan, who is poised to start on Sunday against the Astros, to take over the rotation spot moving forward.
  • CLE Center Fielder #8
Lane Thomas was removed from Friday’s game against the Tigers with mild plantar fascia symptoms.
The hope for Cleveland and fantasy managers is that the recurrence isn’t a significant concern. The 29-year-old center fielder missed time back in May with plantar fasciitis, so the fact the issue has cropped up again is concerning. There should be some clarity on his status ahead of Saturday’s showdown.
  • ATH Shortstop #5
Jacob Wilson went 1-for-4 with a two-run double on Friday against the Giants in his return to the lineup.
Wilson made his return to the Athletics’ lineup following a two-game absence for precautionary reasons due to hamstring soreness. The 23-year-old rookie sensation was named the American League’s starting shortstop for the upcoming Midsummer Classic and is putting together a remarkable full-season debut, hitting .337 through 82 games.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #64
Yankees RHP Geoff Hartlieb has elected free agency.
Hartlieb will head out to test the open market after refusing an outright assignment back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 31-year-old made one relief appearance earlier this week for New York prior to being designated for assignment and passing through waivers unclaimed.
  • ARI 1st Baseman #15
Diamondbacks signed 1B/OF Seth Brown to a minor league contract.
Brown heads to Arizona just a couple days after being released by the Athletics while on the injured list with an elbow issue. The 32-year-old provides the Diamondbacks with some experienced corner outfield depth and has put up some truly eye-popping numbers this season at the Triple-A level.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #21
Anthony DeSclafani will start on Sunday against the Giants.
The Diamondbacks are going to push back their entire starting rotation for some extra rest, starting with Zac Gallen on Sunday afternoon, amid a stretch of 17 consecutive games without an off day. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers hoping for a two-start week for Gallen, who will get the ball for Monday’s series opener against the Padres instead. The 35-year-old journeyman has done a nice job in four appearances since signing with Arizona back on June 15, but he can be safely ignored in all fantasy formats.
