It was three runs through five innings, but Eovaldi allowed a singled and a double to open the sixth and both runners came around to score off Walter Pennington. Eovaldi walked Masataka Yoshida in the first today, his first free pass in seven starts dating back to June 26. The loss leaves him 8-5 with a 3.62 ERA and a 113/27 K/BB in 117 innings.

It’s known when García picked up the ankle sprain, but the 32-year-old will be out of action for at least a week-plus, and likely longer. Evan Carter (back) was activated off the injured list in a corresponding move.

Carter missed just-over the minimum 10-day stint while dealing with back spasms. He should be an everyday option — with the occasional day of rest, of course — now that he’s back. The question is if these back issues are going to linger in not just 2025, but beyond.

Benschoter is removed from the active roster to make room for Hunter Greene after Greene came off the injured list with a groin strain. Benschoter is nothing more than an up-and-down arm at this stage of his career. There are worse things in life, of course, but there’s no fantasy upside in that.

Greene is back as expected to make the start Wednesday against the Phillies. The right-hander was able to work 5 1/3 innings in his last rehab start, so he should be able to work deep enough — assuming he’s effective, of course — to potentially qualify for a win and put up quality fantasy numbers.

Kelly rejoins the Diamondbacks to replace Anthony DeSclafani (thumb) who was placed on the injured list with a thumb contusion. Kelly will be a low-leverage option in the Arizona bullpen while he’s with the club for a second stint.

DeSclafani will miss at least the next two weeks with the thumb injury, and assuming there’s no structural damage, there’s a decent chance he rejoins the D-backs’ pitching staff by the end of August.

Simon is up with Oneil Cruz on the concussion injured list. The 25-year-old was claimed off waivers from the Marlins in August, and will likely work in a reserve role while with Pittsburgh.

Cruz’s head injury occurred when he collided with Jack Suwinski in the outfield during Tuesday’s game against the Brewers. The 26-year-old won’t be able to return until he clears the protocol. Ronny Simon is up to take his place on the roster.

Scott is making his way back from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, which was performed last September. This bullpen session was the first he’s completed this season, and he is “said to be doing well.” It would be unlikely we see him in a Mets uniform in 2025, but if he continues to progress, he could have a normal offseason heading into the 2026 season.

Crews is going to play four or five innings for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday and then head to D.C. in time for the four-game series against the Phillies. The 23-year-old was a popular breakout candidate coming into this season, but he has hit just .196/.266/.354 in 45 games before getting hurt. However, he did have seven home runs and 11 steals, so there remains true five-category upside here, and Crews is worth at least a bench stash in 12-team leagues and deeper. He played primarily right field when he was active earlier in the season, but can also play center field, so it remains to be seen if he will bump Daylen Lile or Robert Hassell III from the lineup.
