Brandon Nimmo picked up three hits and stole a base in a victory Friday over the Angels.
Nimmo stole one of the three bags the Mets swiped off the Angels on Friday, and it was his 11th of the season. All three hits were singles for the outfielder, and it helped raise his average to .237. Nimmo was removed from Wednesday’s game with a left foot injury, but it sure didn’t appear to be bothering him Friday night.

Robert Gasser pitched four scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.
Gasser has spent the last month in the minors rehabbing from Tommy John and allowed a total of three runs over 15 innings in seven appearances. The Brewers probably won’t have a lot of need for him down the stretch here, but he could be interesting if they suddenly deal with a rash of pitching injuries. He had a 2.57 ERA in nine starts before going down last season.
Wheeler placed on IL with blood clot in shoulder
With Zack Wheeler headed to the IL because of a blood clot in his shoulder, James Schiano expects an extended absence while Philadelphia loses a vital part of its rotation.
  • MIL Shortstop #72
Raynel Delgado hit for the cycle and drove in five runs for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.
Delgado had just two homers and one triple in 103 games this season before managing one of each last night. The 24-year-old is batting .265/.344/.352 in his first year in the Brewers system. He’s a solid enough defensive shortstop to perhaps be employed as a stopgap injury replacement in the majors someday, but he doesn’t offer much in the way of offensive upside.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #63
Justin Slaten struck out all three batters he faced in his rehab appearance for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.
Slaten might get one more minor league outing, but he’s close to rejoining the Red Sox pen. He’s been out since May 29 with shoulder inflammation.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #38
Alex Cobb tossed three hitless innings with four strikeouts for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.
Cobb, trying to come back from hip problems, averaged just 90.8 mph with his sinker in the game, and all of his pitches were down 3-4 mph from last year. What he had was still good enough to retire Triple-A hitters, but he’ll probably need a bit more zip on his pitches to enjoy any major league success.
  • WSH Shortstop
Eli Willits, the first overall pick in the 2025 draft, is joining Low-A Fredericksburg to make his pro debut.
He’ll likely make his first appearance Thursday. Willits, one of the youngest players in draft, doesn’t figure to put up big numbers right away as a pro. He doesn’t even turn 18 until December.
  • DET Catcher #13
After catching the last two days, Dillon Dingler is DHing for the Tigers against the Astros on Wednesday.
It’s Dingler’s second career game at DH after he was penciled in there for the first time on Aug. 9. The Tigers are finding his bat too valuable to take out of the lineup, especially against lefties, and this will be his 16th start in the team’s last 19 games.
  • PHI Right Fielder #8
Nick Castellanos is out of the lineup for the second time in five games after going hitless versus the Mariners on Tuesday.
It’ll be a Brandon Marsh-Harrison Bader-Max Kepler outfield today. Castellanos did have two hits on both Sunday and Monday, but it seems like the Phillies are finally figuring out that he’s just not really worth having in the lineup against right-handers. The next step now is to call up Justin Crawford and turn Castellanos into a true platoon player.
  • SEA 2nd Baseman #7
Jorge Polanco is on the bench Wednesday after striking out four times in Tuesday’s loss to the Phillies.
It’s the second time in three games that he’s sat in favor of Mitch Garver in the DH spot. Polanco starred for the Mariners initially this season, but he’s batting only .206/.280/.339 in 379 plate appearances since May 1.
  • TOR 1st Baseman #27
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is again out of the lineup Wednesday due to hamstring inflammation.
Guerrero was feeling better last night after leaving Monday’s game, but the Jays still thought it made sense to give him three days of rest, including the off day Thursday. Ty France is playing first base today.
  • BAL Left Fielder #17
Coiton Cowser had an RBI double and two walks as the Orioles beat the Red Sox 4-3 in 11 innings on Tuesday.
The Red Sox should have scored the tying run in the 11th, but after a cowardly sac bunt to begin the inning, they chose not to send Nate Eaton from third on Roman Anthony’s fly to center with one out. Cowser made an awful throw home, and Eaton would have scored easily, but the Red Sox simply gave up and lost when Alex Bregman popped up afterwards. The win leaves them 8 1/2 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the Orioles, for all of the grief they’ve taken this year, finish with the better record of the two teams.
