  • ATL First Baseman #28
Matt Olson clobbered a pair of solo home runs on Wednesday, powering the Braves to a 6-2 victory over the Brewers.
Olson took Brewers starter Freddy Peralta deep in the fourth inning before walloping a 416-foot moonshot off reliever Nick Mears in the eighth inning to record his first multi-homer performance of the season. It’s been a disappointing offensive campaign for Olson, relative to fantasy manager’s lofty expectations coming off last year’s 54-homer explosion, as he’s gone deep just 17 times through 107 contests. Despite his prolonged struggles, it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see him get hot and go on a power surge to close out the year.
  • HOU Second Baseman #27
Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters things look “OK” with regard to Jose Altuve.
Altuve suffered an oblique injury before leaving Wednesday’s game. Espada said, “Things look OK. Nothing I can tell you I’m worried about.” Altuve seems to have avoided a serious injury. He’s still day-to-day.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #29
X-rays taken on Tarik Skubal’s right hand following his outing Thursday came back negative.
Skubal was hit on his glove hand by a liner during the game against the Rockies, but he stayed in and finished the inning. More tests are expected, but Skubal believes he’ll be just fine.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #58
Blue Jays designated RHP Yerry Rodríguez for assignment.
The move makes room for Brett de Geus on the 40-man. Rodríguez had a 15.43 ERA in four appearances for the Jays this season. He had been pitching in Triple-A for the last month.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn went 2-for-5 and hit his 13th homer in helping the Cardinals best the Reds 6-1 on Thursday.
Winn had as many hits as he did while going 2-for-29 in his previous seven games. In spite of the occasional slump, the Cardinals haven’t wavered on Winn as a leadoff man since moving him to that spot in May. He’s hitting an unexceptional .251/.295/.394 in that role, but he has scored 57 runs in 88 games.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #54
Sonny Gray improved to 13-9 after limiting the Reds to one run over six innings on Thursday.
Gray outlasted Jakob Junis, who allowed one run over five innings, and got the win after the Cardinals moved ahead in the sixth. It’s the third straight start in which Gray has given up exactly one run, a stretch that’s lowered his ERA from 4.07 to 3.75. He’ll make his next start at home against the Pirates.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #59
Jojo Romero got four outs for his first save of the year Thursday against the Reds.
Romero, who has 30 holds in his setup role, got to stay in for the ninth because the Cardinals increased their lead from three to five runs in the bottom of the eighth, allowing the team to stay away from Ryan Helsley after he pitched last night.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #47
Jakob Junis was lifted after allowing one run and three hits over five innings Thursday against the Cardinals.
They’ve all been fairly short after he previously spent the year as a reliever, but Junis has done a great job in all three of his starts for the Reds, allowing a total of one run in 13 innings. We still wouldn’t say it makes him a great play in mixed leagues, particularly since he’s due to face the Braves next.
  • STL Shortstop #25
Thomas Saggese picked up his first two big-league hits and scored twice Thursday against the Reds.
Saggese was 0-for-9 as a major leaguer until his third at-bat today, when he delivered a bloop single in the seventh. Coming up again an inning later, he hit a liner to center that TJ Friedl probably correctly decided against making a diving attempt to catch. That single gave Saggese his first RBI. He’s started all three games since he joined the Cardinals, so it looks like he’ll have some value in deeper leagues.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #45
Rangers designated RHP Chase Anderson for assignment.
The Rangers needed to clear space on the active roster for Kumar Rocker, so they’ll move on from Anderson, who they just signed to a minor league contract at the beginning of August. The veteran will potentially land back with the Rangers if he clears waivers.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher
Rangers recalled RHP Kumar Rocker from Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers announced this move on Monday, but now it’s official. The 24-year-old has a 0.91 ERA and a 47/4 K/BB in 29 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He should throw around 80 pitches tonight against the Mariners which could be good enough for a win. Rocker is talented enough to be added in most formats. Chase Anderson was designated for assignment to make room.
