In exchange, the Rockies are set to receive minor league right-handers Bradley Blalock and Yujanjer Herrera. Mears, 27, has really struggled out of the Rockies’ bullpen this season — registering a 5.56 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 57/21 K/BB ratio over 45 1/3 innings in 41 appearances. He’ll add depth to the middle of the Brewers’ bullpen, but it’s a bit of a head-scratching move.

Glasnow won’t be returning for the postseason. The Dodgers have indicated that his elbow injury is a sprain. Glasnow, himself, hasn’t had anyhint to say since his setback last week.

The second RBI came on a grounder to second that Nico Hoerner decided to throw home on. A better effort would have had Zack Gelof at the plate, but Hoerner didn’t get enough on the throw. Soderstrom’s homer was his first in four games since he came off the IL and eighth in 181 plate appearances this season. He’s showed enough to make it likely that he’ll go into 2025 as Oakland’s primary first baseman, even if he has some competition in the form of Ryan Noda and maybe Seth Brown.

He struck out five. Basso, who opened with four scoreless frames, left with the A’s down 3-1, but the offense picked him up afterwards. The A’s could have him come back and make two starts next week, but it seems more likely that he’ll pitch just once against the Rangers on Tuesday or Wednesday.

It was a little bit surprising to see Miller back out there after he threw 21 pitches last night. Today’s outing proved to be a quick one, though. He did walk a batter, but he then got a game-ending double play on his 10th pitch of the afternoon. The A’s are off Thursday, so Miller can rest then.

Since the Cubs ended up losing the game, the NL Central was officially clinched by the Brewers. This was expected to be a short-ish outing, but Steele needed 57 pitches to get his eight outs, leading to an especially early exit. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out one. Assuming that his elbow bounces back fine, he’ll likely start again versus the Phillies next Monday.

Senga isn’t going to be stretched out to start games at the beginning of the playoffs, but he’s still hoping to contribute. The Mets still have to decide whether it’s worth the risk; the last thing they need for 2025 and beyond is for Senga to hurt something else while trying to accommodate his leg injury.

Very unfortunate. Stone wasn’t going to be the NL Rookie of the Year this year even if he didn’t get hurt, but he was putting together a season that would have had him in contention many years. He was 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 140 1/3 innings when he went down Aug. 31.

Keith tested the shoulder on the field before the game, but it seemed he wasn’t quite ready for game action. Zach McKinstry is playing second base tonight.

Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Kershaw’s troublesome big toe is doing better now. Kershaw will still need to face hitters at least once before pitching in a big-league game. It’s possible, though, that he’ll get into one game next week in order to gear up for the postseason.

It’s Betts’ first start at second since May 29. He started 11 games at second and 61 at short during the first half of the season. Chris Taylor is getting the start in left with Betts in the infield. Teoscar Hernández slides from left to right.
