Pirates designated LHP Josh Fleming for assignment.
Fleming had a 4.02 ERA in 25 appearances (three starts) for the Pirates this year. He might have some appeal to another team given his ability to throw multiple innings at a time. Fleming is off the Pirates 40-man roster and Pittsburgh has a week to either trade him or place him on waivers.
  • PHI 3rd Baseman #28

Alec Bohm (rib) is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Padres.
Bohm will sit out Sunday’s first-half finale against San Diego after being removed from Saturday’s showdown with a bruised left rib cage. There should be a clearer picture of his status coming out of next week’s All-Star break. It’ll be Edmundo Sosa taking over at the hot corner in his absence.
Players to watch in MLB All-Star Futures Game
James Schiano spotlights the rising stars to watch in this weekend's 2025 All-Star Futures Game in Atlanta.
  • WSH Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams has been scratched from the lineup for Sunday’s first-half finale against the Brewers.
No word yet on the reason for the move as Washington closes out the first half on the road in Milwaukee. It’ll be Paul DeJong taking over at shortstop. We’ll have an update on Abrams’ status if the decision winds up being injury-related.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles recalled C David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bañuelos augments Baltimore’s injury-depleted catching mix for Sunday’s game against the Marlins. The 28-year-old backstop is the seventh different catcher to appear with the Orioles this season due to injuries.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #67
Orioles placed RHP Scott Blewett on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort.
No word yet on the severity of the issue, which will determine how much time Blewett misses. The well-traveled 29-year-old has operated in middle relief this season for Baltimore, making 13 appearances.
  • TOR Center Fielder #10
Joey Loperfido is on the bench for Sunday’s contest against the Athletics.
Loperfido came off the bench as a pinch-hitter during Saturday’s contest out in West Sacramento after being scratched from Friday’s lineup due to illness. The 26-year-old outfielder should be ready to roll once next week’s All-Star break wraps up.
  • SD Catcher #12
Padres recalled C Luis Campusano from Triple-A El Paso.
Campusano joins San Diego’s bench for Sunday’s first-half finale against the Phillies with Gavin Sheets heading out on paternity leave. The 26-year-old backstop has crushed Triple-A pitching this season, but hasn’t been able to make a dent in the big leagues during limited chances.
  • SD 1st Baseman #30
Padres placed INF/OF Gavin Sheets on the paternity list.
Sheets will miss San Diego’s first-half finale on Sunday afternoon against the Phillies, but he should be back for the outset of the second half. The 29-year-old slugger has launched 14 homers in 92 games during his Padres debut.
  • STL 3rd Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against Atlanta.
Arenado will sit out for the second straight contest during Sunday’s first-half finale as he continues to deal with a sprained right index finger. There’s been no indication that he’ll require a trip to the injured list to this point. There should be some clarity on his status following next week’s All-Star break. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese at the hot corner while Nolan Gorman takes a seat to address a lingering back issue.
  • STL Catcher #48
Cardinals activated C Iván Herrera from the 10-day injured list.
Herrera is back at DH and batting second for Sunday’s first-half finale against Atlanta following a three-week absence recovering from a left hamstring strain. The 25-year-old slugging backstop has been pummeled by leg injuries this season and is unlikely to spend too much time, if any, behind the plate over the final two-plus months of the year. He’s some some serious over-the-fence pop with eight homers in 42 games and should be rostered in all fantasy formats as a potential upper-echelon catcher, if he can stay on the field.
  • STL Right Fielder #21
Cardinals placed OF Lars Nootbaar on the 10-day injured list with a left costochondral sprain.
Nootbaar heads to the injured list after exiting two of his last three games with left side discomfort. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch adds that the 27-year-old outfielder has been diagnosed with a sprain where his left rib meets cartilage. It certainly sounds like he’ll require more than just a minimum stay on the injured list to resolve the issue.
