  • BAL Starting Pitcher #26
Orioles designated RHP Levi Stoudt for assignment.
Baltimore claimed Stoudt off waivers in June, but he never appeared in the major leagues with the club. After acquiring RHP Seranthony Dominguez and OF Christian Pache from the Phillies for OF Austin Hays, the Orioles needed to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. Baltimore will have seven days to trade Stoudt or place him on waivers.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #50
The Braves will start Charlie Morton against the Royals on Sunday.
The Braves can clinch a spot Sunday with a win or a Diamondbacks loss, and they’ll try to do it without burning Chris Sale. Sale could still pitch in the doubleheader Monday against the Mets if necessary.
  • SD Second Baseman #4
Luis Arraez is expected to play Sunday after resting Saturday against the D-backs.
Shohei Ohtani raised his average to .310 tonight, but that still leaves an uphill climb for the batting title and triple crown. Arraez is at .314 right now. If Arraez goes 0-for-4 on Sunday, Ohtani could win by going 2-for-2 or 3-for-4. If Arraez goes 1-for-4, Ohtani would need at least four hits to overtake him.
  • LAD Center Fielder #93
Kevin Kiermaier is day-to-day after suffering a dislocated left ring finger on Saturday.
The finger was promptly popped back into place. Kiermaier has mostly been a defensive replacement of late, but he did start tonight for the first time since Sept. 8 and went 1-for-2 before leaving.
  • SD Third Baseman #39
Donovan Solano went 4-for-5 and hit a two-run homer Saturday as the Padres blanked the Diamondbacks 5-0.
All five runs scored in the top of the ninth, with Solano hitting the Padres’ third homer of the inning. It’s his third four-hit game of the year. He’s doing his usual thing with a .287/.344/.418 line in 308 plate appearances this season. This will be his sixth straight year of hitting at least .280 over 200+ plate appearances. Freddie Freeman, at .282 and unlikely to play Sunday, is the only other major leaguer who can say they’ve done the same. Teammate Xander Bogaerts lost his streak this year.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #98
Randy Vásquez pitched one-hit ball for six shutout innings against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
The Padres didn’t score until well after Vásquez exited, so he remained 4-7 for the season, though he did lower his ERA from 5.18 to 4.87. With only three starters needed, he might earn some consideration for a place on the Padres’ Wild Card roster. However, it will take injuries to make him a real factor for the team in October.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #57
Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings before being lifted from a tie game Saturday against the Padres.
Rodriguez allowed four hits, walked two and struck out three before the D-backs turned to the pen. The quick hook worked well initially, but A.J. Puk had a rare bad day and combined with Scott McGough to allow the game’s only five runs in the top of the ninth. Rodriguez ends his abbreviated season 3-4 with a 5.04 ERA in 10 starts. The Diamondbacks could still advance to the postseason, but they’ll need help.
  • SD Center Fielder #28
Brandon Lockridge hit his first MLB home run Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
It was a solo shot off A.J. Puk, and it immediately followed a two-run homer off the bat of Kyle Higashioka. Lockridge’s homer came in just his ninth at-bat since being called up Sept. 11. He totaled two homers in 402 plate appearances in Triple-A this year.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
Adolis García left Saturday’s game due to an apparent left leg injury.
García, who has been troubled by knee issues, came up limping after grounding out in the fifth and didn’t come back out to play defense. Travis Jankowski replaced him in right field.
  • MIL Shortstop #27
Willy Adams drove in a run while going 2-for-4 in a convincing win over the Mets on Saturday.
Adames may get a chance to rest in Sunday’s absolutely meaningless game for the Brewers, so here’s one last chance before the postseason to say how great of a year it’s been for the 29-year-old. He’s now driven in 112 runs while bashing 32 homers and stealing 21 bases. Those are fantasy superstar numbers even before you consider his positional value. Adames will be in action for the Wild Card series against Atlanta, New York or Arizona.
  • MIL Shortstop #3
Joey Ortiz drove in three runs while reaching twice and stealing a base in a win over the Mets on Saturday.
Ortiz got the Brew Crew on the board with a two-run single off Jose Quintana in the fourth. That would be all the offense the Brewers would need, but Milwaukee scored four more runs anyway. For fun. Ortiz has had an up-and-down year offensively, but a .240/.331/.400 slash from a rookie is nothing to sneeze at. There’s likely more coming.
