Nelson worked around a walk and a base hit in the first inning before the Royals put a run on the board with a single and a double in the second. Kansas City brought three more runs in to score in the fourth on a walk, two hits, a groundout, and a wild pitch. Nelson settled in to give the Diamondbacks two more innings of work before his day was done. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.85 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and a 70/24 K/BB ratio across 98 1/3 innings into a start against the Nationals in Arizona on Tuesday.

Lowe has dealt with plantar fasciitis in the past, the foot issue “flared up” according to Rays manager Kevin Cash. Cash also noted that Lowe was going to be off Sunday anyway, and that the 31-year-old would be available off the bench.

Miller touches 97 mph with his fastball in the session, and he also threw his secondary pitches as well. The next steps forward for the 26-year-old will likely be determined by how he feels in the coming days, but a rehab assignment might be in the cards soon, with a chance for Miller to return to the majors in the middle of August.

Paredes looked to be in a good deal of pain while laboring to first base on what assuredly would have been a double if not for the injury. The 26-year-old will almost assuredly get Sunday off, but his status for the coming days — potentially longer — will likely be determined by the results of testing/imaging.

Suárez hit balls 390 and 403 feet off Sonny Gray to surpass his homer totals from the 2021 and 2022 seasons tonight. He’s one away from his second highest total of 34 from 2018, but he still has a long way ago to reach the mark of 49 he achieved in 2019.

The run came on a 443-foot blast from Alec Burleson in the sixth. Nelson allowed only three other hits and walked one in winning a fourth straight decision. He’s 6-2 with a 3.52 ERA overall, and he’ll make for a solid play in mixed leagues with the Pirates on tap next week.

There just isn’t much middle ground for Gray, who gave up at least six runs for the fourth time this season. He’s allowed one or no runs in nine of his 19 starts, and his 124/19 K/BB in 111 1/3 innings is a thing of beauty, but his ERA now stands at 4.04. Still, his stuff was just fine tonight, and he’ll probably bounce back against the Padres next week.

He also swiped his 14th base of the year. Perdomo became the seventh player this year to knock in four runs without collecting an extra-base hit, but no Diamondback had done it since Adam LaRoche in 2010. He’s an incredible ninth in the majors with 71 RBI. Everyone ahead of him is slugging at least 100 points higher than his current .422 mark and has more than twice as many homers as his 10.

The second triple and double both would have been homers in 19 ballparks, according to Statcast. Carroll is up to 12 triples this season, putting him on pace to smash his MLB-high total of 14 from last season. He also had 10 as a rookie in 2023, and at just 24 years old, he’s already tied for 17th in triples among active players with 34 (Starling Marte and Mike Trout top the list at 55).
