  • DET Starting Pitcher #45
Tigers manager AJ Hinch told reporters Tuesday that Reese Olson’s shoulder injury is not considered serious.
Olson was placed on the injured list Sunday with a right shoulder strain, but Hinch told MLB Network radio that testing revealed the injury to be “mild.” The 24-year-old remains without a timeline, but it sounds like Olson has a good chance to return at some point this summer.
  • STL Third Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado left Friday’s game in the ninth inning with left shoulder discomfort.
Hopefully this is just a day-to-day thing. If not, the Cardinals could bring back Nolan Gorman and turn to Brendan Donovan and José Fermín at third base.
  • HOU Left Fielder #14
Mauricio Dubón is day-to-day after jamming his thumb during Friday’s game.
X-rays were negative. Dubón was playing third base tonight with Alex Bregman getting a maintenance day. He should have a lesser role now that Kyle Tucker is back.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in a victory Friday over the Cardinals.
Rodríguez has stolen 21 bases on the year with that theft. The outfielder now has a modest nine-game hitting streak, and in three of those contests he’s picked up multiple knocks. That has helped him improve his batting average from .251 to 262, and his OPS from .660 to .698. It’s still not what fantasy managers were hoping for, but improvement is improvement.
  • STL Right Fielder #18
Jordan Walker hit a solo homer in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.
Walker clobbered an offering from Troy Taylor into the left-field stands to get the Cardinals on the board. It’s just the second homer of the season for the 22-year-old, although that number is obviously affected by him spending so much time in the minors. It’s a nice reminder that Walker oozes talent, and there’s still time for him to tap into his star potential.
  • SEA Shortstop #25
Dylan Moore hit a two-run homer Friday to help the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals on Friday.
Moore dropped the barrel on an offering from Matthew Liberatore to give Seattle a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning. The 32-year-old is now in double digits with 10 homers and has driven home 41 runners in 117 games to go with 29 steals. He’s also hit just .208 on the year, so there’s been just as much bad — if not more — than good for Moore in 2024.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #50
Bryce Miller allowed just three hits and struck out four in six scoreless innings to defeat the Cardinals on Friday in a 6-1 victory for the Mariners.
Miller was excellent against the Cardinals, and while he did struggle Sunday in his start against the Angels, he’s been an outstanding option as of late. The right-hander has allowed no more than two runs in five of his last six, and he’s lowered his ERA from 3.84 at the start of July to 3.18. Miller sometimes gets lost in the shuffle because of the number of quality starters in the Seattle rotation, but he deserves a lot more attention. He’ll get the Rangers next week.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #12
Erick Fedde allowed just a run over 4 2/3 innings, but took a loss to the Mariners on Friday.
Fedde walked three, and he threw just 52-of-95 pitches for strikes while he was in the game. The right-hander was still able to limit the Seattle lineup to just one run on a sac fly by Randy Arozarena, but that was one more run than Bryce Miller allowed while Fedde was in the game. He’ll try and be more efficient and lower his 3.39 ERA against the Blue Jays next weekend.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #74
Kenley Jansen is dealing with a lat issue, he said after Friday’s game, and likely will miss additional time.
This explains why he struggled Wednesday and didn’t get the call in a save chance Friday. Although Josh Winckowski closed tonight, Chris Martin should be the favorite for saves until Jansen returns.
  • NYM Third Baseman #27
Mark Vientos went 3-for-5 with two two-run home runs in the Mets’ dramatic win over the Reds.
Vientos’ two two-run home runs bookended this game as he hit one in the first inning and then walked it off in the 10th. While not talked about much, he’s been one of the best stories in baseball this season. The Mets season turned around not long after he was named a starter in the middle of May and his .905 OPS is the highest of any third baseman in the league. He could go from triple-A to a silver slugger in just four short months.
  • CIN Shortstop #44
Elly De La Cruz went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run on Friday against the Mets.
The Reds managed four runs on four hits in this game thanks to two-run homers from both De La Cruz and TJ Friedl. The former crushed his an estimated 413 feet at 111.1 MPH in an impressive display of power. That power has dried up a good bit of late though as this was De La Cruz’s first homer in 16 games and second overall since the beginning of August.
