  • LAD Starting Pitcher #22
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed after Saturday’s victory that Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) will make his season debut on Thursday against the Giants.
Kershaw would have been in line to start on Wednesday, but Tyler Glasnow is already scheduled to make his return that day. The 36-year-old southpaw has made three minor league rehab starts, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 12/2 K/BB ratio over 10 innings. Expect him to be limited to around 80 pitches his first time out. Fantasy managers shouldn’t be afraid to unleash him in his first start back, though the limited pitch count could potentially cost him a shot at a victory.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #21
Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Hunter Greene (elbow) could return either September 20 or September 21 against the Pirates.
Reds manager David Bell told reporters that Greene will throw live batting practice Tuesday against St. Louis, and then do a two-inning simulation five days later against Minnesota. “And the next step would be to pitch in one of our games,” Bell said. “He’s not going to be built up to go seven innings. But if those two steps go well, the next one will be in our game.” Greene has not pitched since August 13 and will offer some risk with the reward if/when that occurs, but obviously it’s nice to see one of the more talented arms getting healthy.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #31
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that he expects Max Scherzer (shoulder) to make his next start with the Rangers after Saturday’s rehab outing.
Scherzer and Jacob deGrom are both making rehab starts Saturday, and both are hopefully going to make their way to Texas after. Scherzer is only expected to pitch two innings tonight for Triple-A Round Rock, so it’s likely the 40-year-old will be in maintenance mode even when he does make the return to the bump. That makes him a risky streaming option for the rest of the year.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández (ankle) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Guardians.
As expected, Hernández is out of the lineup after being hit by a pitch on his left ankle. The Dodgers haven’t announced a move to the injured list yet, but that still seems likely. Andy Pages gets the start in left field, and he’ll likely see most of the playing time until Hernández can return.
  • STL Left Fielder #33
Brendan Donovan is not in the lineup Saturday against the Mariners due to a foot infection.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters before Saturday’s game the infection makes it difficult for Donovan to put pressure on his foot. Marmol also did note that the team is considering Donovan day-to-day, and they’re hopeful Donovan can play Sunday in the series finale. José Fermín is starting at second base with Donovan unavailable.
  • LAD Center Fielder #44
Andy Pages is getting the nod in left field for the Dodgers on Friday with Teoscar Hernández absent.
The Dodgers could have had some additional defense and the platoon advantage by going with Kevin Kiermaier, but Pages is the choice. The 23-year-old rookie is 1-for-5 since being recalled Sept. 1. He’s hit .245/.303/.386 in 399 plate appearances for the Dodgers this season.
  • PIT Catcher #32
Henry Davis was excluded from the Pirates lineup for both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Nationals.
Even though the Pirates are facing lefties in both games, they still declined to find any room for Davis. There just doesn’t seem to be much of a plan for the first overall pick in the 2021 draft right now. It’s even hard to see how he’ll fit in next year, what with Joey Bart looking quite good and Endy Rodriguez on the way back from Tommy John. He hasn’t played a game anywhere except catcher or DH this season.
  • CWS Catcher #26
Korey Lee wanted back in the lineup for the White Sox on Saturday, but the team decided to give him one more day.
Lee is out of the lineup for a second straight game with back stiffness.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #43
Nick Nastrini will pitch out of the pen going forward, according to the White Sox.
Nastrini fell to 0-7 with a 7.79 ERA when he lost to the Orioles on Tuesday. We figured he’d be sent down after that one, but he’ll stick as a middle man, it seems. The White Sox plan to use a bullpen game in Nastrini’s previously scheduled Monday start against the Guardians.
  • BAL Shortstop #23
Orioles signed INF Terrin Vavra to a minor league contract.
The Mariners claimed Vavra off waivers from the Orioles on Aug. 25, only to DFA him six days later. He declared free agency after clearing waivers, and this puts him back in the organization he’s spent the rest of the last four years with. The 27-year-old will return to Triple-A Norfolk. He’s hit .254/.331/.304 in 159 career major league plate appearances.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #54
Royals sent RHP Dan Altavilla outright to Triple-A Omaha.
Altavilla can become a free agent if he’d like. He made five appearances for the Royals this season, giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
