Nothing official yet, but it wouldn’t be shocking if his season was over. The 34-year-old southpaw, who suffered the injury during Friday’s second-half opener against the Nationals, boasts a strong 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 41/10 K/BB ratio across 51 1/3 innings (38 appearances, three starts).

Contreras has been sidelined with a broken left middle finger, but he is reportedly eager to get back on the field He will be reevaluated on Monday and then the club will “chart his path to a return,” manager Oliver Marmol said. Contreras has been out of the splint for the past week, so it’s possible he could return within another 7-10 days.

He will return to a nearly everyday role in the Twins’ lineup and is just three games away from playing the most games in a season since 2017. Austin Martin was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.

King has been stellar at both Triple-A and in the majors this season, posting a 2.05 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 27:9 K:BB ratio in 22 innings with the Astros. He will give the Astros another dependable lefty other than Josh Hader. Nick Hernandez was demoted in a corresponding move.

Hernandez has struggled in eight innings at the big league level this year, posting a 7.88 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. The 29-year-old does have a 1.90 ERA in 23 2/3 innings in Triple-A with a 34:9 K:BB ratio and figures to remain organizational bullpen depth. Bryan King was called up in a corresponding move.

With Chas McCormick (wrist) being placed on the IL, the Astros will bring up Kessinger to fill a bench infield spot. The 27-year-old was up with the Astros for 11 weeks earlier this year but started only two games and went 0-for-15 in total. He doesn’t figure to play much this time around either.

McCormick suffered the injury last night, so his placement on the injury list is just a formality at this point. Given the nature of the fracture, it’s likely that McCormick will be out for the remainder of the regular season. Grae Kessinger was called up in a corresponding move.

The veteran will take a seat against a left-hander starter with Daz Cameron starting in left field and batting eighth. Brown has hit .296 with seven home runs, 13 runs scored, and 25 RBI in 41 games since the All-Star break; however, the A’s will face four more lefties in their next six games, which could impact his playing time going forward.

Carpenter has been hitting fourth in recent weeks, but the Tigers will move him up to second perhaps to get him extra at-bats. The 27-year-old has been heating up of late, batting .313 with six home runs, 12 runs, and 20 RBI in 23 games since being activated off the IL in August. Extra at-bats at the top of the order will be a nice boost to his fantasy value.

Since Thomas Saggese was called up earlier this week, he has started every single game with the Cardinals rotating out another player in the lineup each game. One game Masyn Winn sat, the next game Lars Nootbaar sat, and now Brendan Donovan will sit. It’s a bit of a frustrating situation for fantasy managers because you’ll never know who will sit in which game.
