Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters Friday that both Zack Wheeler (back) and Ranger Suárez (back) could potentially start next week against the Twins.
Thomson added that both starters will be re-evaluated this weekend before they finalize a plan. However, barring anything unexpected, it seems like both Wheeler and Suárez — who have been dealing with minor back issues — will be ready to take the ball in the coming days when the Phillies travel to Minnesota.

Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-4 and clobbered a three-run homer on Tuesday night, but it wasn’t enough to power the Braves past the Royals in Kansas City.
Ozuna drew a two-out walk off of Seth Lugo in the fourth inning but was left stranded at first base. He then belted a 399-foot (105.4 mph EV) two-run shot on a first-pitch curveball from Seth Lugo that pulled the Braves to within a run at 4-3. That would be as close as they would get. He then chipped in an RBI single in the seventh inning. With his two-hit effort, the 34-year-old slugger is now hitting .236/.364/.403 with 15 homers and 47 RBI.
Misiorowski 'not at risk' of being shut down
With multiple short starts in July, Eric Samulski questions the plan moving forward for Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski and the fantasy implications for the rest of the season.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #22
Erick Fedde suffered a defeat in his Braves’ debut on Tuesday, giving up four runs on five hits across his 4 2/3 frames.
The 32-year-old right-hander also issued a pair of walks on the evening while punching out three opposing hitters. He served up a solo homer to Vinnie Pasquantino in the opening inning, then the Royals tacked on three additional runs against him in the second inning. Fedde settled in after that, but it was already too late. He got nine swings and misses on 78 pitches on the evening, registering a CSW of 26 percent. Given their lack of options, Fedde should continue to take the ball every fifth day for the Braves despite his troublesome 5.33 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 66/49 K/BB ratio over 106 1/3 innings on the season. He’ll do battle against the Brewers his next time out at home on Monday.
  • DET Center Fielder #31
Riley Greene went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI as the Tigers demolished the Diamondbacks 12-2 on Tuesday evening at Comerica Park.
Greene led off the fourth inning with a double and scored the team’s first run on a two-run single off the bat of Dillon Dingler. Greene then whacked a 420-foot two-run blast off of Brandon Pfaadt in the fifth inning that increased their edge to 5-2. For good measure, Greene smacked an RBI double off of Brandyn Garcia in the sixth inning that made it 9-2. With his three-hit attack, the 24-year-old budding superstar is hitting .275/.323/.526 with career highs of 26 homers and 84 RBI through his first 443 plate appearances on the season.
  • CHC Left Fielder #8
Ian Happ will go on the injured list due to a shin contusion, with Moises Ballesteros coming up to take his spot.
Happ seemed to think he was just day-to-day after the injury, but the Cubs are going to see if maybe Ballesteros can give them a lift. He’ll likely serve as the primary DH while Seiya Suzuki patrols left field in Happ’s absence.
  • DET 2nd Baseman #39
Zach McKinstry went 2-for-5 with a homer, double and four RBI on Tuesday night as the Tigers walloped the Diamondbacks at Comerica Park.
McKinstry crushed the third of the Tigers’ three home runs off of Brandon Pfaadt in the fifth inning, with his 384-foot two-run blast increasing his squad’s lead to 7-2. He also plated a run with a ground ball in the sixth inning and then smacked a two-out RBI double in the eighth inning that capped off the Tigers’ scoring in the ballgame. On the season, the versatile 30-year-old is now hitting .268/.349/.449 with nine long balls, 36 RBI and 16 stolen bases (in 19 attempts).
  • NYM Left Fielder #22
X-rays were negative on Juan Soto’s foot, and he’s listed as day-to-day.
Soto has served as a DH just twice this season, but maybe the Mets could give him a game or two there to help with his foot contusion, which he suffered when he fouled a ball off himself in Tuesday’s game.
  • DET 2nd Baseman #25
Gleyber Torres went 2-for-5 and swatted his 11th home run of the season on Tuesday in a lopsided victory over the Diamondbacks.
The 28-year-old All-Star second baseman tagged Diamondbacks’ right-hander Brandon Pfaadt for a 386-foot (105.2 mph EV) on the first pitch that he saw in the fifth inning, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish. He also singled with two outs in the third inning. With his two-hit attack, Torres is now slashing a healthy .278/.379/.423 on the season to go along with 11 long balls and 50 RBI.
  • SEA Center Fielder #20
Luke Raley is going on the IL with back stiffness, Mariners manager Dan Wilson said after Tuesday’s game.
This is the move that clears room for Tyler Locklear to make his season debut. Raley had already mostly fallen out of the picture for the Mariners following the Josh Naylor acquisition, and there was some thought that he might get traded. That’s probably off the table now.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #12
Casey Mize was bounced in the second inning in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks in just 1 2/3 innings.
Oof. Mize struck out two batters on the night. He had his start pushed back an extra day due to soreness in his knee and you have to wonder if it was still nagging at him in this start which led to his early departure. He allowed a leadoff triple to Corbin Carroll and then an RBI single to Ketel Marte to put him in an early 1-0 hole. The Diamondbacks then scratched out an unearned run against him in the second inning. On the night, Mize generated seven whiffs on 59 pitches, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll try to put this one out of his mind as he totes a 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and an 84/26 K/BB ratio (94 1/3 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Twins.
  • LAA 2nd Baseman #4
Christian Moore is set to begin a rehab assignment at High-A Inland Empire.
Unfortunately, Moore’s Inland Empire stats really have nowhere to go but down; he played in two games there after being drafted last year and went 6-for-11 with a homer, two doubles and six RBI. Moore could rejoin the Angels this weekend or early next week after missing four weeks with a thumb sprain.
