  • LAD Shortstop
Dodgers selected Hardee HS (FL) SS Kellon Lindsey with the No. 23 selection of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Lindsey’s calling card is his speed, and that makes him just as intriguing -- if not more so -- of a fantasy prospect as he is a “real life” one because of the chance to be a stolen base leader someday. In order to reach that stature, he’s going to have to be able to get on base, and the 18-year-old has a quick stroke conducive to hitting line drives to all parts of the park. There are power questions, but at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and with quick wrists, he could develop average pop. Even without it, Lindsey is an excellent fantasy target because of a chance to steal bases, hit for average and potentially score some runs.
  • LAD Second Baseman #25
Tommy Edman went 2-for-4 with a sac fly and a steal Thursday as the Dodgers topped the Orioles 6-3.
Despite being without an RBI through eight games as a Dodger, Edman was hit cleanup for the very first time in his career tonight, and he got the job done. He should be pretty helpful in mixed leagues down the stretch here, even if he probably will hit in the bottom third of the Dodgers order most nights.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #28
Bobby Miller yielded three runs in five innings Thursday in a win over the Orioles.
This was a really positive outing for Miller threw four scoreless innings, but in the fifth, he plunked leadoff man Eloy Jiménez, walked Ramón Urías with one out and then gave up a Colton Cowser homer with two outs. It was just one of two hits he allowed on the night. Miller could fall out of the Dodgers’ plans if Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow pull off successful returns next month, but he should stay in the rotation for now and face the Angels next time out.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #59
Evan Phillips worked a hitless ninth against the Orioles on Thursday for his 17th save of the year.
It’s his third save of the second half. Phillips hit the first batter he faced with a 3-0 pitch tonight, but he had no further issues and wound up with two strikeouts. He has a 0.79 ERA and a 20/1 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings this month. Michael Kopech, who pitched the previous two days and was likely unavailable tonight, is the favorite for saves in L.A. at this point, but Phillips has definitely reentered the mix.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #37
Cade Povich was tagged for five runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Povich gave up five hits on contact ranging from 58 to 82 mph, which seems pretty unlucky. Still, that can happen when one isn’t missing bats, and Povich got all of four missed swings tonight. He’s been quite a disappointment in going 1-7 with a 6.58 ERA to date. However, he makes for a worthy play in mixed leagues with the White Sox next on the schedule.
  • BAL Center Fielder #17
Colton Cowser’s 20th homer of the year was a three-run dinger hit against the Dodgers on Thursday.
With one month to go, Cowser is the clear favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year honors, though Mason Miller, Luis Gil and Austin Wells can’t be dismissed as candidates. His homer off Bobby Miller provided all of the scoring for the Orioles in the loss tonight, and he’s batting .294/.359/.510 in the second half of the season.
  • HOU Right Fielder #23
Jason Heyward went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI against the Royals on Thursday.
Heyward started the scoring with his two-run double off Brady Singer in the fifth inning. He was removed for a pinch hitter before taking a third at-bat, which tells us all we need to know about his role with the Astros. He’s going to play against right-handed pitching until or if Kyle Tucker (shin) returns. Heyward is hitting .211 with a .691 OPS and 30 RBI on the season.
  • KC Outfielder #28
Kyle Isbel went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI against the Astros on Thursday.
Isbel cleared the bases with a double off Bryan Abreu in the seventh inning to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. Isbel has been hot lately going 15-for-50 (.300) with 10 RBI in his last 16 games. He’s hitting .230 with seven home runs and 38 RBI on the year so he would only be an option in AL-Only formats.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Royals on Thursday.
Hader’s save was his 29th of the season. He struck out one in a perfect inning and lowered his ERA to 3.19 on the year. Hader bounced back nicely after taking the loss against the Phillies in his last outing. He’s been scored on in just one of his last 13 outings.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #51
Brady Singer allowed two runs in six innings and got a no-decision against the Astros on Thursday.
Singer gave up five hits, walked one and struck out six. It was a much needed bounce back start for Singer after he had allowed at least four runs in three of his last four starts prior to Thursday’s start. Unfortunately, the Royals bullpen couldn’t hold the lead for him. Singer is 9-9 with a 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 147 strikeouts in 152 2/3 innings on the year. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Guardians at home next week.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #58
Hunter Brown allowed two runs (none earned) in 6 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 6-3 victory over the Royals on Thursday.
Brown gave up two hits, walked two and struck out four. The Royals finally broke through for two runs in the seventh inning, but only after Brown recorded two outs and Jeremy Pena made an error. Brown left with two men on after Salvador Perez reached on an error and MJ Melendez. Both runners scored after he was removed and the runs were charged to his line, though they were unearned. Brown has now allowed two or less runs in eight of his last nine starts and has a 1.98 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings in that time. Brown is 11-7 with a 3.55 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 155 strikeouts in 147 innings on the year. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Reds on the road next week.
