Mets selected Oklahoma State OF Carson Benge with the No. 19 selection of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Benge also pitches, and he posted a 44/11 K/BB with a 3.16 ERA as a relief option for the Cowboys. The reason he’s going this high, however, is he’s a hitter with a chance for four plus tools who hit .335/.444/.665 with 18 homers and 10 stolen bases over 61 games for the Big 12 club. The outfielder did undergo Tommy John surgery before his freshman campaign, but that injury hasn’t changed his offensive outlook. Benge has a chance to be an above-average regular, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was a top-of-the-order hitter in the next two-to-three years.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Marlins will select the contract of RHP Freddy Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Tarnok was signed to a minor league contract in December. The 26-year-old will get a chance to make his first MLB appearance since 2023 when he was a member of the A’s organization. A corresponding move will be announced Sunday.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.
  • STL Left Fielder #33
Brendan Donovan (toe) is expected to return to the lineup Sunday against the Brewers.
Donovan has missed four consecutive games with a sprained big toe, but a carbon-fiber orthotic in his shoe has helped to ease his toe pain. The 28-year-old will likely need some maintenance days, but it’s a positive development that he can get back on the field this weekend.
  • TB 3rd Baseman #13
Junior Caminero went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk in the Rays’ 8-4 win over the Mets on Saturday.
Caminero led off the fourth inning with a solo homer off Tylor Megill and drew a walk in the same inning as the Rays hit around the order. The home run snaps a four-game hitless streak for Caminero. The talented 21-year-old third baseman is up to 16 homers while slashing .245/.286/.490 with 38 runs scored and 45 RBI across 276 plate appearances.
  • NYM Shortstop #10
Ronny Mauricio went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the Rays on Saturday.
Mauricio took Drew Rasmussen deep for a solo homer in the fifth inning, his second of the season. The home run broke a three-game hitless streak for the 24-year-old infielder. Mauricio will likely need to pick it up at the plate to avoid losing playing time once Mark Vientos (hamstring) returns from the injured list.
  • NYM 3rd Baseman #7
Brett Baty went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the Rays on Saturday.
Baty led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo homer off Drew Rasmussen to put the Mets on the board. The 25-year-old infielder is hitting .222/.271/.424 with eight homers and 24 RBI across 171 plate appearances.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #57
Drew Rasmussen allowed four runs with three strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Mets on Saturday.
Rasmussen tossed two scoreless innings before Brett Baty took him deep for a solo homer to lead off the third. A double and a base hit brought a second run in to score in the inning. A solo homer, walk, and base hit brought two more runs in to score in the fifth before Rasmussen’s day was done. He struck out three. The 29-year-old right-hander will take a 2.55 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 62/15 K/BB ratio across 74 innings into a start against the Orioles in Tampa on Thursday.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #38
Tylor Megill allowed six runs -- three earned -- with five strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings in a loss against the Rays on Saturday.
A double and a hit brought a run in for the Rays in the third inning. Things then unraveled for Megill in the fourth. Junior Caminero took him deep for a solo homer to lead off the frame. The Rays would then bring three more runs in before Megill was pulled with two outs in the frame. The 29-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and an 89/33 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings. He’ll face the Phillies in Philadelphia on Friday.
  • ATL Starting Pitcher #51
Chris Sale will not start Sunday’s game against the Rockies.
Instead, Sale will start against the Mets with that series beginning Tuesday and going through Thursday. The 36-year-old will get some extra rest, and also won’t be wasted against the worst team in baseball. Grant Holmes will start Sunday’s game instead.
  • HOU Right Fielder #11
Cam Smith singled in Christian Walker in the bottom of the ninth to give the Astros a 3-2 win over the Twins on Saturday.
Smith’s grounder hit to the left side hit right in front of the plate, but at 107.5 mph off the bat, if had just enough to get through the infield. Smith also had a 105.8-mph lineout to center today. Since a five-game hitless streak from May 30-June 4, Smith has gone 8-for-28 with six RBI in his last six games. He’s not a consistent run producer just yet, but it’s only a matter of time.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #58
Hunter Brown fanned a career-high 12 while allowing two runs in seven innings Saturday against the Twins.
The only damage came on a 345-foot homer from Brooks Lee. It’s Brown’s second career 10-strikeout game; he previous fanned exactly 10 against the A’s on May 26, 2023. It seems like he should have more of those, but he’s fanned nine on six occasions this year. Brown is tied for fifth in the majors with 105 strikeouts in 86 innings. He’ll likely face the Angels next Friday, unless the Astros want to move him up to take on the A’s on Thursday.
