Marlins selected Summerville HS (SC) OF PJ Morlando with the No. 16 selection of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Morlando has been on radars for a while now, and he was the MVP of the High School All-American Game in 2023. As often happens with players who have been scouted this heavily, some of that star has waned, but there’s reason for optimism, as seen with him going with this high of pick. The 6-foot-3 outfielder has a chance for above-average power in his left-handed bat, and his bat speed and feel for the barrel gives him a similar potential hit tool. He’s just an average runner and isn’t likely to be a major stolen base threat, but if he maxes out offensively, it won’t matter too much.
