Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo is at catcher and batting cleanup for the American League during Saturday’s All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field.
It’s a star-studded lineup with several of the top fantasy prospects in the game featured alongside Basallo. The 19-year-old burgeoning slugger has morphed into one of the premier dynasty hitters in the fantasy landscape last year, and has backed it up this season in the upper minors, batting .274/.338/.449 with 12 homers and seven steals through 75 games for Double-A Bowie. Here’s the full lineup: Max Clark CF, Cole Young 2B, Sebastian Walcott SS, Basallo C, Spencer Jones RF, Xavier Isaac 1B, Colson Montgomery 3B, Jaison Chourio LF and Harry Ford DH.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #25

Tommy Edman is on the bench for Sunday’s series finale against the Astros.
Edman gets a break after making six consecutive starts since last weekend between second base and center field. It’ll be rookie Hyeseong Kim taking over at the keystone on Sunday afternoon in his place.
Hold Muncy if placed on injured list
Eric Samulski advises fantasy managers to "hold" Max Muncy if placed on the injured list, who has produced in a big way since the beginning of May, and discusses the outlook for Dodgers' call-up Esteury Ruiz.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Astros.
Hernández takes a seat with speedster Esteury Ruiz drawing his first start since being called up earlier this week from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
  • SD Relief Pitcher #66
David Morgan will open Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
Morgan will take the ball to kick off Sunday night’s contest at Petco Park with lefty Kyle Hart figuring to follow in a bulk relief role.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #80
Dodgers recalled RHP Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Sheehan offers some immediate fantasy intrigue, especially in deeper mixed leagues, when he takes the ball for Sunday’s series finale against the Astros. The 25-year-old righty is expected to receive some runway to establish himself in Los Angeles’ rotation mix with Ben Casparius shifting back to a bullpen role. It’s a bit unclear how things will shake out once Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) returns, but Sheehan has a path to regular starts if he performs at the highest level in Los Angeles. He’s at least worthy of a speculative pickup for fantasy purposes.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #81
Dodgers optioned RHP Jack Little to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Little’s stint with the Dodgers wound up lasting roughly 24 hours as he heads back to the minors to make room for Emmet Sheehan to take the ball on Sunday against the Astros.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #23
Kris Bryant (back) told reporters his back still isn’t responding well when he attempts to run.
Bryant told reporters he’ll consult with doctors this week to explore experimental treatment options in an effort to avoid back surgery, which would likely be career-ending. The 33-year-old former NL MVP has been out since early April dealing with lumbar degenerative disease, a chronic condition that will require constant management for the rest of his playing career. At this point, it’s fair to wonder if he’s ever going to play again. We’re hoping that isn’t the case, but he’s not making any sort of progress towards returning this season.
  • COL Center Fielder #2
Tyler Freeman is absent from the lineup for Sunday’s game against the White Sox with right hamstring soreness.
There’s zero incentive for the Rockies to push things with just a handful of games left before the All-Star break. It’ll be rookie Yanquiel Fernández taking over in right field on Sunday in his place. Freeman has been one of the few bright spots of late in an otherwise dismal year for Colorado, emerging as a decent option for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues over the last few weeks, hitting .392 (38-for-97) with one homer and nine steals over his last 30 games. He’s presumably day-to-day heading into Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #40
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Bryce Jarvis from Triple-A Reno.
Jarvis returns to the big leagues with veteran reliever Ryan Thompson hitting the injured list with a shoulder strain. The 27-year-old compiled a bloated 6.10 ERA across 10 1/3 innings (seven appearances) earlier this season for Arizona. He’ll operate in middle relief out of the Diamondbacks bullpen.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #81
Diamondbacks placed RHP Ryan Thompson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 5, with a right shoulder strain.
No word yet on how much time Thompson figures to miss. The 33-year-old veteran reliever has been one of Arizona’s key relief cogs this season with a serviceable 4.45 ERA across 32 1/3 innings (36 appearances). He made a career-high 67 appearances last year for the Diamondbacks. There should be an update on his status at some point in the coming days.
  • KC 3rd Baseman #11
Maikel Garcia is not in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks.
It’s a rare off day for Garcia, who hasn’t sat out since June 3. The 25-year-old could probably use a break after going 6-for-28 with zero homers and zero thefts over his last seven games. He’s connected for only three homers and picked up only 18 steals over his past 30 contests. It’ll be Nick Loftin filling in at the hot corner on Sunday afternoon in his place.
