  • ARI Relief Pitcher #38
Paul Sewald pitched a scoreless ninth in a 1-0 game for his 13th save Thursday against the Braves.
Matt Olson very nearly hit a game-tying homer off Sewald, but Jake McCarthy made a jumping catch at the wall to deny him. This makes two saves in two days for Seward. Since he’s thrown just 23 pitches between the two games, it’s possible he’ll be available to work for a third straight day on Friday. If not, Ryan Thompson might be in line for a save chance, since Kevin Ginkel has also worked two straight days.
  • ARI First Baseman #53
Christian Walker (oblique) has resumed baseball activities.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters Walker is asymptomatic after hitting the injured list back in late July with a left oblique strain. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return yet, but there’s a possibility the veteran first baseman winds up skipping a rehab assignment in an effort to get back into Arizona’s lineup as quickly as possible. If there’s a silver lining here it’s that Josh Bell has done a tremendous job filling in at the cold corner since being brought in from the Marlins.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #18
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) threw a 40-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Yamamoto will travel to join the club later this week before facing hitters on Friday in a two-inning simulated game. The 25-year-old right-hander’s return would provide a significant boost for Los Angeles’ injury-plagued starting rotation mix. He’s been on the shelf since mid-June recovering from a rotator cuff strain.
  • NYY Center Fielder #13
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been diagnosed with a left UCL injury.
Boone added that the club is still working to determine the severity of the injury, which will require a trip to the injured list. The biggest question left for fantasy managers is whether Chisholm will require surgery, which could potentially impact his 2025 outlook. The 26-year-old, who was batting .316 (18-for-57) with seven homers and five steals over 14 games since being acquired last month from the Marlins, suffered the left elbow injury on a slide into home plate during Monday’s loss to the White Sox. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days, but fantasy managers should prepare for an extended absence. It’ll likely be some combination of Oswald Peraza, Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu taking over at the hot corner for New York.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #48
Marlins sent RHP Shaun Anderson outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Anderson predictably went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last Friday. The 29-year-old journeyman righty has the option to elect free agency, but will probably elect to stick around with Miami as emergency pitching depth.
  • STL Center Fielder #63
Michael Siani (oblique) has resumed baseball activities.
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters Siani has yet to resume taking swings, so it seems unlikely he’ll be back before September. The 25-year-old defensive ace hit the injured list back in early August with a moderate right oblique strain. His extended absence has created an opportunity for both Jordan Walker and Victor Scott II at the highest level.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #36
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters Ross Stripling is being moved to the bullpen.
The Athletics are going to look at some of their younger alternatives in their starting rotation for the remainder of the season as their long-term rebuilding effort continues. The 34-year-old veteran will pitch in long relief duty for the final few weeks of the year.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #57
Phillies sent RHP Nick Nelson outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Nelson passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Sunday. The 28-year-old righty made only three relief appearances for the Phillies back in April before being shipped to the minors for good.
  • SD Third Baseman #13
Manny Machado is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Pirates.
Machado is back at the hot corner and batting cleanup after getting a rare day off during Monday’s series opener. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart is batting .276 (34-for-123) with eight homers and 23 RBI over his last 30 contests.
  • ARI Second Baseman #4
Ketel Marte (ankle) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Rockies.
No real surprise here as the Diamondbacks are going to proceed with an abundance of caution after Marte aggravated a left ankle injury during Monday’s series opener against Colorado. The 30-year-old franchise cornerstone, who has arguably been the top second baseman in the fantasy landscape this season, is day-to-day for now. There should be an update on his status shortly once the results of his MRI come back.
  • ARI Left Fielder #12
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.
As expected, Gurriel is back at designated hitter and batting third for Tuesday’s showdown following a one-game absence due to left hamstring tightness. It appears Arizona managed to catch the issue early before it became a more serious problem.
