  • TEX Starting Pitcher #23
Michael Lorenzen pitched around five walks to shut out the Rays for five innings in the Rangers’ 3-0 victory Friday.
Lorenzen surrendered just one hit, a double off the bat of Brandon Lowe. It wound up being a three-hit shutout for the Rangers’ pitching staff, with José Leclerc, Jacob Latz, David Robertson and Kirby Yates combining to finish the effort. Lorenzen is now 5-4 with a 3.21 ERA. It will be interesting to see if the Rangers choose to move him with Tyler Mahle, Cody Bradford and Jacob deGrom all seemingly on the way back.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #62
Angels optioned RHP Victor Mederos to Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Angels are going with Hans Crouse as a bullpen option, so Mederos will head to Triple-A. There’s a slim chance he could be back for Los Angeles before the end of the campaign.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #52
Angels recalled RHP Hans Crouse from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Crouse will be back to provide some middle-inning help for the Halos. The 25-year-old has pitched well with a 3.00 ERA in his 24 innings over 24 appearances thus far.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #66
Athletics optioned LHP Brady Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Basso will head back to Triple-A after pitching well in his first MLB start with six shutout innings against the Tigers on Sunday. He could be back before the season ends, but obviously time is running out on that happening. Brandon Bielak was brought up from Triple-A in the corresponding transaction.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #37
Athletics selected the contract of RHP Brandon Bielak from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Bielak will add bullpen depth for the A’s for the final three weeks. The Athletics optioned Brady Brasso to make room for Bielak on the roster.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #0
Pirates sent RHP Domingo Germán outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Germán went unclaimed after being designated for assignment Thursday. He’ll be org depth for the rest of 2024 and likely looking for a new home in 2025.
  • PIT Catcher #32
Pirates placed C Henry Davis on the 10-day injured list with left hand inflammation.
As expected, Davis will head to the injured list with Billy Cook added to the active roster to take Davis’s place. There’s no timetable for when Davis will be ready to return, but with only three weeks left in the season there’s a chance the 24-year-old won’t return again until 2025.
  • Pirates selected the contract of INF/OF Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis.
A 10th round pick in 2021 by Baltimore, Cook will get a chance to make his MLB debut with Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old has posted an .843 OPS in the minors this year with 17 homers and 25 stolen bases. Those are strong numbers, but there are likely better options on the waiver wire than Cook at this stage.
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles was scratched from Sunday’s lineup against the Cardinals.
Robles was set to hit at the top of the lineup, but the outfielder will get Sunday off instead. Consider the 27-year-old day-to-day at this point with a chance to return Tuesday against the Padres. Justin Turner is now in the lineup with Luke Raley moving from first base to right field.
  • ARI Shortstop #10
Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is hitting second and playing shortstop for Double-A Amarillo on Sunday.
Lawlar is working his way back from the hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the overwhelming majority of the season. The 22-year-old is expected to report back to Triple_A soon, but it seems unlikely that he’ll play for the Diamondbacks in 2024. He’s definitely still an upside play in the future.
  • PIT Catcher #32
Danny Demilio of PGH reports that the Pirates will place Henry Davis on the 10-day injured list.
That explains why Davis wasn’t in the lineup for either game of a doubleheader Saturday against the Nationals. No word yet on what the injury is, but the former first-overall pick will be out for at least 10 days, and there’s a chance his 2024 season is over.
