  • MIA Left Fielder #12
Jesús Sánchez doubled, tripled and homered in an extra-inning loss to the Red Sox on Thursday.
Sánchez came just a single away from hitting for the cycle, which isn’t a common result. The 26-year-old’s homer was a big one, as it was a two-run shot that tied the game at 4-4 in the 11th inning. He was next on base in the 12th with a chance for the cycle, but Josh Bell struck out with two outs to prevent the chance. Sánchez is having his usual hot-and-cold season with a slash of .247/.297/.409 with nine homers and 33 RBI.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #67
Giants transferred RHP Keaton Winn to the 60-day injured list.
While Winn suffered a setback on Tuesday and was shut down due to renewed soreness in his elbow, this was actually done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the return of Robbie Ray on Wednesday. There’s no clear timeline for when Winn may be able to return.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #73
Giants optioned RHP Randy Rodriguez to Triple-A Sacramento.
With Robbie Ray joining the team’s active roster on Wednesday, someone needed to get the boot and Rodriguez pulled the short straw. The 24-year-old hurler has posted a 4.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 44/15 K/BB ratio over 43 innings with the big-league club this season. It shouldn’t take him long to earn another opportunity with the Giants.
  • SF Center Fielder #29
Giants optioned OF Luis Matos to Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants claimed outfielder Derek Hill off of waivers and he was added to the active roster on Wednesday, which cost Matos his spot on the roster. He’ll return to an everyday role at the Triple-A level until the Giants have another need for an outfielder.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #96
Dodgers optioned RHP Landon Knack to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers needed to free up a spot on their active roster — and in their rotation — for the return of Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday and unfortunately Knack was the odd-man out this time around. He’ll continue to function as extra rotation depth at the Triple-A level until he’s needed once more.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #28
Tanner Bibee was removed from Wednesday’s start against the Tigers after five innings due to an apparent injury.
Bibee went out to warm up prior to the sixth inning and couldn’t get loose — having some sort of issue with his right leg. The right-hander tried to talk his way into staying in the game, but the training staff and manager Stephen Vogt ultimately made the decision to pull him. Bibee had allowed just one run on two hits in his five frames. The Guardians should have an update on his status shortly.
  • LAD Shortstop #16
Dodgers signed INF Nick Ahmed to a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old shortstop will be active and in uniform for Wednesday night’s battle against his former team — the Giants. Miguel Rojas (forearm) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move on Wednesday. Expect Ahmed so see most of his action with the Dodgers against left-handed pitching, though he’s unlikely to be relevant from a fantasy perspective.
  • LAD Shortstop #11
Dodgers placed INF Miguel Rojas on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 22, with right forearm tightness.
The 35-year-old infielder left Sunday’s game due to tightness in his right forearm and it doesn’t sound like it improved much over the last few days, so they’ll sit him down for a bit to make sure that he heals properly. Nick Ahmed was signed to a major league contract and will take his place on the Dodgers’ active roster.
  • LAA Third Baseman #23
Brandon Drury smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning on Wednesday, leading the Angels to a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Mariners.
The Angels weren’t able to get anything going against Luis Castillo in this one, but finally broke through and scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning, with Drury’s RBI knock off of Trent Thornton playing Kevin Pillar with the go-ahead run. The 31-year-old slugger finished the day 2-for-4 and is now hitting .172/.253/.213 with a homer and eight RBI.
  • LAA Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez closed out the Mariners yet again on Wednesday afternoon, working a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a one-run advantage.
The 31-year-old closer made it look awfully easy in this one, getting Jason Vosler on a line drive to short, Tyler Locklear on a foul pop to first and Luke Raley on a fly ball to center — needing just nine pitches (seven strikes) to register his 20th save of the season. An increasingly popular target on the trade front, Estévez could be closing games in a new uniform next week.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #47
Griffin Canning pitched well in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday afternoon, allowing just one run on four hits over his five innings of work.
Canning piled up six strikeouts on the day while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Mitch Haniger in the second inning. That sole run was enough to put him in line for a loss until the Angels scratched out a run of their own in the eighth. Canning got 11 whiffs on 94 pitches on the day — five of those on his changeup — while posting a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll look to build off of this strong outing when he totes a 5.04 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and a 79/41 K/BB ratio (110 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s tilt against the Rockies.
