  • DET Left Fielder #30
Kerry Carpenter (back) experienced increased discomfort in his back during workouts.
Carpenter had started baseball activities, but is now on rest and rehab. Consider this a setback in his return. Carpenter has been on the injured list with a lumbar injury since the end of May. He hit .283 with eight home runs and 29 RBI in 50 games this season.
  • ARI First Baseman #53
Christian Walker went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th inning on Saturday in the Diamondbacks’ extra-inning victory over the Padres.
Walker put Arizona ahead in the 10th inning with a two-run single off Padres reliever Wandy Peralta. The 33-year-old veteran first baseman has homered five times since June 2 and is batting an absurd .500 (15-for-30) with five round-trippers and 13 RBI over his last seven contests. Simply put, he’s one of the hottest hitters in baseball at the moment.
  • SD Second Baseman #7
Ha-Seong Kim went 3-for-5 with a game-tying RBI double on Saturday in the Padres’ extra-inning loss at the hands of the Diamondbacks.
Kim came through with a clutch game-tying double in the eighth inning off Diamondbacks reliever Ryan Thompson, that wound up eventually sending the contest to extra innings. The 28-year-old infielder has just three homers and four steals over his last 30 games, but he’s already at 10 homers and 17 thefts overall this season through 91 games leading into the All-Star break.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #54
Humberto Castellanos recorded a two-out save on Saturday in the Diamondbacks’ extra-inning win over the Padres.
With Paul Sewald presumably unavailable after a blown save on Friday night, Castellanos got the call to protect a two-run lead after Thyago Viera served up an RBI double to Donovan Solano and recorded just one out to open the 10th inning. The -year-old righty struck out Ha-Seong Kim on a foul tip before coaxing a game-ending fly out from Kyle Higashioka to put out the fire.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #61
Matt Waldron allowed three runs over six innings on Saturday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
Waldron gave up five hits, including a fourth-inning solo shot to Lourdes Gurriel Jr., but managed to turn in another quality start. He struck out six and only handed out a pair of free passes. The 27-year-old knuckleballer was lone gone before this one was eventually decided in an extra-inning marathon. He’ll bring a solid 3.61 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 93/30 K/BB ratio across 99 2/3 innings (18 starts) into his first-half finale on Saturday against the Braves.
  • COL Right Fielder #9
Brenton Doyle clubbed a two-run homer on Saturday, leading the Rockies to a 3-1 win over the Royals.
Doyle’s 408-foot moonshot off Royals starter Seth Lugo in the second-inning was his fourth round-tripper in his last five contests and also gave Colorado an early advantage that they didn’t relinquish. The 26-year-old was already a brilliant defender in center field coming into the year, but he’s made some serious strides at the plate this season with 11 homers and 20 steals already heading into the All-Star break. He’s on fire at the moment, batting a surreal .423 (11-for-26) with four homers, nine RBI and one steal over his last seven contests.
  • KC First Baseman #9
Vinnie Pasquantino swatted a solo homer on Saturday in the Royals’ loss to the Rockies.
Pasquantino’s sixth-inning blast off Rockies starter Austin Gomber was his 11th deep fly of the season and represented the lone run for Kansas City in a rare low-scoring affair at Coors Field. The 26-year-old first baseman is batting .305 (18-for-59) with four homers and 13 RBI over his last 15 games.
  • COL Third Baseman #24
Ryan McMahon went 3-for-3 with an RBI on Saturday in the Rockies’ win over the Royals.
McMahon reached base safely in all four of his plate appearances and also provided a key insurance run with a fifth-inning single off Royals starter Seth Lugo that brought Sam Hilliard around to extend Colorado’s lead to a commanding three-run margin at the time. The 29-year-old third baseman is making a serious push for his first All-Star Game selection this season, batting .272 (90-for-331) with 14 homers, 45 RBI and three steals through 87 games.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #38
Victor Vodnik hurled a scoreless ninth inning on Saturday against the Royals to record his first career save.
Vodnik got the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and certainly made things interesting by giving up a one-out single to Hunter Renfore before issuing a two-out walk to Freddy Fermin. However, he managed to get Michael Massey to ground out to preserve the victory. It was the first time he’s converted a save in three chances this season. The 24-year-old righty holds a respectable 3.91 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 41/21 K/BB ratio across 46 innings (38 appearances) this season for Colorado.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #26
Austin Gomber yielded one run over seven innings on Saturday in a win over the Royals.
Gomber authored one of his better performances of the season, carrying a shutout into the sixth inning before coughing up a solo homer to Vinnie Pasquantino, which represented the lone tally against him over seven strong frames, to pick up his second win of the year. He struck out three and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 30-year-old lefty has underwhelmed once again this season, but we’re at the stage of his career where fantasy managers probably aren’t counting on him outside of NL-only formats. He’ll bring a lackluster 4.47 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 62/24 K/BB ratio across 94 2/3 innings (17 starts) into a road matchup on Thursday against the Reds.
  • KC Starting Pitcher #42
Seth Lugo was charged with three runs (two earned) over six innings on Saturday in a loss to the Rockies.
Lugo fell behind early when he surrendered a two-run homer to Rockies emerging star Brenton Doyle in the second inning. He managed to limit the damage to just a run-scoring single by Ryan McMahon in the fifth-inning, but it was enough to saddle him with a loss for just the third time this year. The 34-year-old righty is tied with Braves ace Chris Sale with a major league-leading 11 wins this season to accompany a sparkling 2.21 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 110/29 K/BB ratio across 122 innings (19 starts). There’s some regression looming, but he’s been a revelation this season in his Kansas City debut. He’ll wrap up the first half on Saturday with a road matchup against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
