  • LAD Shortstop #13
Dodgers signed INF Alan Trejo to a minor league contract.
Trejo will head to Triple-A Oklahoma City after refusing an outright assignment last weekend from the Rockies after being designated for assignment. The 28-year-old infielder struggled this season in the majors, but he represents some solid emergency organizational depth for Los Angeles.
  • LAA Center Fielder #27
Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters Mike Trout will miss the rest of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
It’s an absolutely devastating development as Trout was on the precipice of making it back to Los Angeles a couple weeks ago before suffering a pair of setbacks. The 32-year-old generational talent, who has been limited to just 266 out of a possible 648 games over the last four seasons due to injury, tore the meniscus in his surgically-repaired left knee earlier this week and could potentially require another procedure. The hope is that he’ll be fully healthy and ready to go for spring training.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #72
Pirates designated RHP Ryder Ryan for assignment.
Ryan was designated for assignment at the trade deadline to clear a spot on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster and will most likely wind up going unclaimed on waivers. The 29-year-old righty has made 13 relief appearances this season in the big leagues.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #83
    Orioles released RHP Wandisson Charles.
Charles looked like a potentially savvy pickup last December for the Orioles when they inked him to a minor league contract, but he never wound up making it to Baltimore. The 27-year-old relief prospect compiled a lackluster 8.60 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 32/33 K/BB ratio across 30 1/3 innings (31 appearances) this season between Triple-A Norfolk and Double-A Bowie.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #66
Grant Holmes will start on Saturday against the Marlins.
It’s a phenomenal streaming opportunity for fantasy managers as Holmes will face Miami’s floundering lineup after striking out eight and allowing just one run over five innings on Monday in a spot start against the Brewers. The 28-year-old former top pitching prospect has performed extremely well since finally getting a shot a couple weeks ago, posting a sparkling 2.54 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 29/5 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings (11 appearances, one start). He’ll take the ball in place of an injured Reynaldo López, who remains day-to-day with a forearm tightness. It’ll be Max Fried (forearm) likely coming off the injured list to start Sunday’s series finale against Miami.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #23
White Sox released RHP Corey Knebel.
Knebel signed a minor league pact with Chicago back in mid-February and never wound up making it back to the majors. Fastball velocity was an issue for the 32-year-old righty in recent outings with Triple-A Charlotte and there wasn’t much of a path back to the big leagues with the rebuilding White Sox.
  • TOR Catcher #70
Blue Jays claimed C Nick Raposo off waivers from the Cardinals.
Raposo was up briefly with the Cardinals earlier this season, but didn’t end up getting into a game. The 26-year-old Rhode Island native augments Toronto’s organizational catching depth at Triple-A Buffalo.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #52
Blue Jays optioned RHP Paolo Espino to Triple-A Buffalo.
Espino heads back to the minors after being lit up for four runs over four innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Orioles. The soft-tossing 37-year-old journeyman righty might get another couple spot starts over the final few months, but he’s obviously not a recommended fantasy option.
  • DET Shortstop #28
Tigers activated SS Javier Báez from the bereavement list.
Báez isn’t in the lineup for Thursday’s contest against the Royals, but he’s officially back with the Tigers following a two-game absence on the bereavement list. The 31-year-old is in the midst of another massively disappointing season for Detroit with a calamitous .484 OPS with four homers and six steals in 67 games.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #37
Tigers selected the contract of LHP Sean Guenther from Triple-A Toledo.
Guenther last appeared in the majors during the 2021 season when he made 14 relief appearances for the Marlins before undergoing Tommy John surgery just prior to the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old left-hander has recorded a strong 3.86 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 46/14 K/BB ratio across 44 1/3 innings (34 appearances, two starts) this season at the Triple-A level. He’ll pitch in long relief situations for Detroit moving forward.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #75
Tigers selected the contract of RHP Brenan Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo.
Hanifee made three relief appearances for Detroit last year and gets the call back to the majors following their flurry of trade deadline moves earlier this week. The 26-year-old righty figures to operate in middle relief after compiling a pedestrian 5.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 53/14 K/BB ratio across 47 innings (34 appearances) this season at the Triple-A level.
