  • TEX Left Fielder #36
Wyatt Langford hit for the cycle and drove in four runs as the Rangers bested the Orioles 11-2 on Sunday.
Langford had just 14 extra-base hits in 59 games this season before coming up with three tonight. The homer, his fourth, came in his fifth and final at-bat of the night. It caps off a fine June for Langford in which he hit .283/.347/.446 with two homers, 18 RBI and six steals in 25 games. Things will likely only keep getting better from here.
  • TB Starting Pitcher #11
Shane Baz was scratched from Tuesday’s start for Triple-A Durham.
Baz was scratched to keep him available in case the Rays need to call up a starter for a potential Wednesday doubleheader against the Royals. With rain in the forecast in Kansas City on Tuesday night, Tampa Bay didn’t want to take any chances and not have Baz available, if needed. There’s still a bunch of hurdles to clear, but it’s possible the 25-year-old top pitching prospect could make his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery later this week.
  • ARI Catcher #14
Diamondbacks activated C Gabriel Moreno from the 10-day injured list.
Moreno is officially back for Tuesday’s series opener against the division-rival Dodgers following a nearly two-week absence due to a left thumb sprain.
  • ARI Center Fielder #5
Diamondbacks activated OF Alek Thomas from the 10-day injured list.
Thomas will make his long-awaited return to Arizona’s lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Dodgers after missing three months due to a hamstring strain and a couple setbacks during his rehabilitation process.
  • ARI Relief Pitcher #64
Diamondbacks recalled RHP Gavin Hollowell from Triple-A Reno.
Hollowell was claimed off waivers a couple weeks ago from the division-rival Rockies and will augment Arizona’s bullpen depth heading into Tuesday’s game against the Rockies.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #52
Diamondbacks placed LHP Jordan Montgomery on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 29, with right knee inflammation.
The Diamondbacks had to come up with something here since Montgomery badly needs to press the reset button on the metaphorical console. The 31-year-old southpaw’s Arizona debut has gone about as poorly as one could imagine with a bloated 6.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 45/23 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings (13 starts). The hope here for fantasy managers is that some time out of the spotlight to work on things is able to help him get back on track.
  • ARI Shortstop #9
Diamondbacks optioned SS Blaze Alexander to Triple-A Reno.
Alexander got off to a strong start this season in place of an injured Geraldo Perdomo, but there isn’t exactly a spot for him in Arizona at the moment with everyone back healthy in the starting lineup. The 25-year-old rookie holds a respectable .688 OPS with three homers and three steals across 175 plate appearances. He’ll continue to play everyday back at Triple-A Reno until another opportunity arises.
  • ARI Catcher #16
Diamondbacks designated C Tucker Barnhart for assignment.
Arizona is going to roll with Jose Herrera as their primary backup to starter Gabriel Moreno moving forward. Barnhart is a fine short-term stopgap, but he offers next to nothing at the plate at this stage of his career. The 33-year-old veteran should be able to latch on somewhere else as emergency catching depth.
  • LAA Third Baseman #23
Brandon Drury (illness) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Athletics.
Drury is back at second base and batting seventh for Tuesday’s series opener against Oakland following a 10-game absence due to a respiratory virus.
  • OAK Third Baseman #77
Athletics recalled 3B Brett Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Harris has struggled at the plate in a handful of contests this season for Oakland, but he’s going to get another shot with veteran Aledmys Díaz being designated for assignment.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher
Athletics recalled RHP Tyler Ferguson from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Ferguson returns to the big leagues ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Angels to fill a middle relief role in Oakland’s bullpen.
