  • TOR Relief Pitcher #57
Blue Jays acquired RHP Yerry Rodríguez in a trade with the Rangers for RHP Josh Mollerus.
Rodríguez will head to Triple-A Buffalo. The 26-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment after an ugly 7.11 ERA and 28/17 K/BB in his 31 2/3 innings with Texas over the last two seasons. The Blue Jays will hope to unlock his potential, but he’s not likely to be more than organizational depth at this stage.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo (hamstring) will make a rehab start for High-A Everett this weekend.
Woo has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since June 25th and has also battled an elbow injury earlier in the season. There’s no word yet on how many rehab starts Woo would need, but it doesn’t figure to be more than one or two.
  • COL Third Baseman #44
Rockies INF Elehuris Montero has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Montero was designated for assignment last weekend after hitting .205 with a .571 OPS so far this season. With nobody claiming him on waivers, he will return to Triple-A where he hit .359 in 35 games last year with 15 home runs and 48 RBI. He may simply be a good Triple-A hitter who never quite finds his footing at the big league level.
  • FA Left Fielder #8
Eddie Rosario cleared unconditional release waivers and is a free agent.
Rosario is now free to sign with any team and figures to find a home with a contender looking for a veteran left-handed bat off the bench.
  • WAS First Baseman #45
Nationals optioned 1B Joey Meneses to Triple-A Rochester.
Menses is hitting .235 on the season with three home runs and a 63/21 K/BB ratio in 75 games. He is also coming off a month of June in which he hit just .198; however, he was 4-for-12 in his first three games in July. No corresponding move has been announced and Joey Gallo has yet to start a rehab assignment, so the Nationals could opt to use Jesse Winker at first base in the near future.
  • HOU Left Fielder #30
According to the Houston Chronicle, Kyle Tucker (shin) and Justin Verlander (neck) will both be out through the All-Star break.
Tucker’s long absence with a shin bruise will continue. It’s fair to wonder if there’s something more going on here, but Tucker will remain out for at least another two weeks through the All-Star game on July 16th. Both Astros fans and fantasy managers hope that will be enough time to get Tucker back on the field on July 19th.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #39
According to the Houston Chronicle, Jake Bloss (shoulder) will make a rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A Sugar Land.
Bloss injured his shoulder during his MLB debut back in June and was subsequently put on the IL. He may not need more than one or two rehab appearances before the Astros consider giving him another shot at the rotation, but with Luis Garcia (elbow) also nearing his return, the Astros could opt to keep Bloss at Triple-A for the near future.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #81
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Luis Gil’s recent struggles could be impacted by an inconsistent release point.
Boone said that the Yankees have noticed that Gil’s recent point has been inconsistent of late. That could be tied to fatigue since he’s pitching more innings than he ever has before or it could simply be a mechanical issue with an easy fix. The inconsistent release point could also be leading Gil to tip some of his pitches, which might provide more context to why the Orioles were able to pounce on his fastball so much in his recent start. It should also be noted that Gil is making many non-competitive pitches and leaving pitches over the heart of the plate, so the release point isn’t the only issue to be fixed, but it might be one that can be addressed soon.
  • CHC Left Fielder #52
Pete Crow-Armstrong is available off the bench today on Thursday after getting four stitches on his left thumb.
The rookie would have likely been on the bench today anyway with a left-handed pitcher on the mound, so it’s good to know that the thumb injury likely won’t keep him out long; however, he remains off the fantasy radar in most leagues as a defense-first player.
  • TEX Second Baseman #2
Marcus Semien is not in the Rangers’ lineup on Thursday.
It’s a rare off day for Semien, who has played all 162 games in three of the last four non-COVID seasons and played 161 games in the other year. However, the day off might be needed as Semien has been struggling at the dish of late. Jonathan Ornelas still start at second and bat ninth.
  • WAS Left Fielder #6
Jesse Winker propelled the Nationals to a 1-0 win over the Mets with a pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning.
Winker was not in the starting lineup with left-hander Jose Quintana on the mound, but he entered the lineup to face Adrian Houser in the eighth and clobbered a 407-foot home run for the eventual game-winner. It was Winker’s 10th of the season to go along with 39 RBIs. He figures to be a popular name at the trade deadline for a contender looking for a left-handed bat. That could potentially lead to a loss of fantasy value if he is not traded into a starting role, so fantasy managers will cross their fingers.
