  • STL First Baseman #46
Paul Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a solo homer against the Reds on Saturday.
Goldschmidt took Carson Spiers deep for a solo homer in the sixth inning for his only hit of the game as the Cardinals fell to the Reds. The 36-year-old slugger is up to 11 homers while slashing .228/.298/.367 with 39 runs scored, 33 RBI, and four steals across 344 plate appearances.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #49
Kolby Allard held the Diamondbacks to one run in five innings in the Phillies’ 6-4 win Thursday.
Congratulations to Allard, who picked up his first MLB victory since 2022 and his first win as a starter since Aug. 15, 2021. A Eugenio Suárez solo shot was the only damage tonight. Allard is still due to be knocked from the Phillies rotation if Ranger Suárez returns next week as hoped.
  • PHI Relief Pitcher #53
Carlos Estévez picked up his first save for the Phillies after allowing one run in the ninth Thursday against the D-backs.
Jeff Hoffman, who had been the favorite for saves of late, worked a scoreless seventh tonight. Estévez lost fantasy value with the trade from the Angels to the Phillies, but he would seem to be the current favorite for saves in a Phillies pen that will often deal with mixing and matching.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #52
Jordan Montgomery lost to the Phillies after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings Thursday.
Montgomery got 12 missed swings and didn’t allow any homers tonight, but five singles, three doubles and three walks turned this into another negative outing. We’re not all that high on Montgomery at the moment, but since he does have a home start against the Rockies and a road outing versus the Marlins coming up, he’s a solid play for the next two weeks.
  • ARI Center Fielder #31
Jake McCarthy went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI against the Phillies on Thursday.
McCarthy is hitting an impressive .299/.375/.424, even though his exit velocity numbers aren’t any better than they were previously. It seems like luck, but if the Diamondbacks do start using him regularly, his speed would make him a decent option in mixed leagues.
  • SEA Shortstop #7
Jorge Polanco is day-to-day after a collision at first base Thursday against the Tigers.
No word on exactly what the problem is, but if Polanco can’t go Friday, then Ryan Bliss will likely start at second base.
  • SEA Right Fielder #17
Mitch Haniger delivered a three-run double in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mariners a 4-3 win over the Tigers on Thursday.
The double on a liner to right should have been caught by Ryan Vilade — or at least played into a single — but the fielder went for it and turned it into a walkoff. Haniger is batting .208/.293/.351 in 352 plate appearances, which isn’t good but also isn’t quite as bad as it looks, given than T-Mobile has played as baseball’s best park for pitchers this season. Haniger still might go back to losing playing time if Dominic Canzone performs well after coming off the IL on Thursday.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #22
Bryan Woo pitched 6 2/3 innings of three-run ball Thursday in a no-decision against the Tigers.
Woo struck out seven and walked one in a quality outing. He’s allowed more than three runs just once while posting a 2.27 ERA in 13 starts.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #19
Given the save chance, Will Vest surrendered two runs while getting two outs Thursday to take a blown save and a loss against the Mariners.
Vest would have gotten the save had the Tigers employed a better right fielder, but it wasn’t meant to be tonight. The Tigers don’t have a closer at the moment, and it’s possible Vest will get additional save chances. Still, it doesn’t seem like a good enough bet to make him worth picking up in mixed leagues.
  • DET Left Fielder #50
Ryan Vilade struck out all three times up and gave the Mariners a win by botching a play in right field to end Thursday’s game.
Other than that, he was pretty good. Vilade can hit some singles and doubles, but he still probably doesn’t warrant a spot on a major league roster. The Tigers will likely drop him once Kerry Carpenter comes off the IL.
  • DET Left Fielder #8
Matt Vierling was removed from Thursday’s game against the Mariners due to back spasms.
Vierling was 0-for-3 before being replaced by Gio Urshela at third base. Consider him day-to-day.
