Cardinals optioned RHP Kyle Leahy to Triple-A Memphis.
Leahy had spent most of the last two months with the Cardinals and amassed a 4.13 ERA while typically serving as a middle reliever. He’ll surely get another opportunity later.

Rangers’ skipper Bruce Bochy told reporters on Friday evening that Nathan Eovaldi’s next start will be pushed back a few days.
Eovaldi left Tuesday’s start after only two innings due to right triceps fatigue, so the move certainly makes sense. The Rangers have an off day on Monday, so the rest of their rotation will remain on regular rest until the club decides when and where to slot Eovaldi back in. He had been lined up for two starts next week, now that assignment will go to Tyler Mahle.
Palencia 'asserts himself' as Cubs closer
Daniel Palencia has four saves in his last four appearances, and James Schiano examines how the 25-year-old flamethrower has officially asserted himself as the Chicago Cubs closer moving forward.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
Adolis García is not in the Rangers’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals.
Rangers’ skipper Bruce Bochy confirmed that García was given the night off to take a mental break and clear his head. The 32-year-old slugger is slashing a woeful .208/.256/.371 with seven homers, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and a 57/11 K/BB ratio over 215 plate appearances on the season. Ezequiel Duran will start in left field for the Rangers on Friday night and will bat ninth against Matthew Liberatore and the Cardinals.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #24
Zach Eflin shut out the White Sox for seven innings and struck out six in the Orioles’ 2-1 victory Friday.
The six strikeouts topped his previous season high by one, and it’s also the first time he’s completed seven innings. The opponent definitely deserves some credit for Eflin’s success today, as he didn’t seem to be doing anything much differently than usual. The win moves him to 4-2 with a 4.46 ERA, and he has another rather favorable outing coming up in Seattle next week.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #74
Félix Bautista picked up his ninth save despite giving up a run in the ninth Friday against the White Sox.
Bautista gave up two doubles and then nearly surrendered a two-run homer to Luis Robert Jr. that went just foul. Robert went on to walk, and Joshua Palacios struck out to end the game. Bautista’s splitter is working well for the most part, but he continues to look more average than dominant in the closer’s role for Baltimore. Odds are that he’ll improve, and no one else is making a run at his job. Things will probably be okay in the end.
  • CWS Starting Pitcher #59
Pitching behind an opener, Sean Burke threw six innings of two-run ball Friday against the Orioles.
Burke took over after Jared Shuster worked a scoreless first and could have gone without ever allowing a run if the White Sox had employed some better defense in the sixth inning. He concludes May with a 2.72 ERA over 33 innings, even though his 25/20 K/BB is ugly (it was 19/19 before today). He’ll likely face the Tigers next, though we’ll have to wait and see whether it’s as a starter or a bulk guy.
  • BAL Left Fielder #13
Heston Kjerstad went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday against the White Sox.
The Orioles’ injuries have kept Kjerstad in the lineup, but things are only getting worse the more playing time he gets; he’s 3-for-35 with a 12/1 K/BB in his last nine games, leaving him at .186/.233/.300 in 150 plate appearances overall. He still figures to wind up in Triple-A at some point, and he’s probably lost a great deal of his trade value.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #5
Josh Rojas finished 0-for-3 and grounded into a double play against the Orioles on Friday, leaving him with a .150 average through 60 at-bats.
.150/.250/.183 is the line for Rojas so far, yet he remains a lineup fixture against right-handers. Perhaps that will change if the White Sox want to give Andrew Vaughn or Tim Elko another chance at some point. For now, they’re content with Miguel Vargas at first, leaving third for Ramos.
  • LAD Relief Pitcher #59
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday night that right-hander Evan Phillips will undergo season-ending Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery.
It sounded ominous when the Dodgers moved him to the 60-day injured list on Thursday and didn’t provide an update and now we have clarity on exactly what’s going on there. Phillips tried playing catch a couple of days ago and it did not go well, prompting another examination and the ultimate diagnosis of the torn UCL. He’ll miss the remainder of the 2025 season and a large chunk of the 2026 campaign as well while recovering.
  • LAD Right Fielder #50
Mookie Betts is absent from the lineup for Friday’s game against the Yankees due to a toe injury.
According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, Betts may undergo X-rays to see exactly what’s going on there. It sounds like it’s an issue that has been nagging him for a while, so it’s probably best to get it looked at to be on the safe side. Miguel Rojas will start in his place at shortstop on Friday night and could be in line for increased action if the dynamic 32-year-old is forced to miss any time.
  • MIN Center Fielder #12
Harrison Bader was held out of the Twins’ starting lineup once again on Friday night against the Mariners.
Bader has now missed four consecutive games due to inflammation in his right ring finger after breaking his bat on a swing over the weekend. If this continues to linger, the Twins may ultimately be forced to use a backdated stint on the injured list. Byron Buxton returned to the Twins’ lineup on Friday night and will cover center field while Willi Castro starts in left against Bryan Woo and the Mariners.
