Tigers signed INF Drew Maggi to a minor league contract.
Maggi made his long-awaited big-league debut last April for the Pirates after 13 seasons in the minors. The 35-year-old journeyman infielder has been playing this season for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League.

Giants sent INF Donovan Walton outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
The 30-year-old infielder passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with the Giants on the minor league side for the time being. Walton appeared in just nine games with the Giants during the 2024 season, slashing .136/.240/.273 with one homer, two RBI and a 7/2 K/BB ratio over 25 plate appearances.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #31
Reds signed LHP Brent Suter to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.
The deal also includes a $3 million option for the 2026 season. The Reds chose to go this route instead of simply exercising their $3.5 million option on the left-hander for the 2025 season. Suter was one of the most reliable options in the team’s bullpen during the 2024 campaign, compiling a 3.15 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 50/12 K/BB ratio over 65 2/3 innings while recording a pair of saves.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #47
Reds’ RHP Jakob Junis has declined his side of an $8 million mutual option for 2025.
Junis will receive a $3 million buyout and will hit the open market. The right-hander excelled as a full-time member of the bullpen in 2024, compiling a brilliant 2.69 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and a 51/8 K/BB ratio over 67 innings between the Brewers and Reds. Given his success in 2024, he won’t have any trouble finding a landing spot for the 2025 season.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #28
Reds’ RHP Nick Martinez has declined his $12 million player option for 2025.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, as the 34-year-old right-hander should be able to do much better than that for himself on the open market after a strong season with the Reds in which he went 10-7 with a 3.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 116/18 K/BB ratio across 142 1/3 innings in 42 appearances (16 starts). He should have plenty of interested suitors over the winter.
  • CIN Catcher #22
Reds declined their one-year, $3.5 million team option on C Luke Maile.
The 33-year-old backstop will receive a $500,000 buyout as he hits the free agent market. Maile struggled mightily in 154 plate appearances with the Reds during the 2024 season, flailing wildly to a .178/.268/.252 slash line with only two homers and eight RBI. He’ll probably have to settle for a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training elsewhere this winter.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #22
Clayton Kershaw will have surgery on his left foot and left knee on Wednesday.
Kershaw’s foot surgery will address his toe and the knee surgery will repair his torn meniscus. The left-hander who turns 37 before Opening Day 2025 said he would be back next year, though there is no timetable for his exact return.
  • TB Second Baseman #8
Rays exercised their one-year, $10.5 million team option on INF Brandon Lowe.
The 30-year-old slugger will return for an eighth season with the Rays after slashing .244/.311/.473 with 21 homers, 58 RBI and five stolen bases across 107 games with the club during the 2024 campaign. While he has never gotten back to the elite power production that he provided during the 2021 season, he has done more than enough to justify the Rays picking up his very reasonable option.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #7
Giants’ LHP Blake Snell has exercised the opt-out clause in his contract for the 2025 season.
This was expected. Snell had a player option for $30 million for 2025, but instead will try free agency again. After posting a 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 145 strikeouts in 104 innings, the two-time Cy Young winner figures to be one of the most sought after starters on the open market.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #68
Marlins sent RHP Darren McCaughan outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
McCaughan was awful in 42 innings with the Marlins and Guardians with a 6.21 ERA, and is the definition of roster filler at this — and any other — stage of his career.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #77
Adam Oller has elected free agency.
Oller will hit the open market after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Jacksonville. Multiple outlets report that the 30-year-old is expected to explore the overseas market. A good season in Japan or Korea could set Oller up for a decent market in the majors in 2026 or 2027.
