It only took two games for the 21-year-old phenom to slide into a premium spot in the Nationals’ lineup, and as long as he hits he should remain there indefinitely. The premium spot in the order should lead to ample counting stats to go along with his dazzling blend of power and speed — making him a must-add in all formats for the remainder of the season.

Martinez was scratched from the team’s starting lineup on Tuesday due to soreness in his left ankle — that he got from having to use cleats that were emergency ordered from Amazon. Fortunately, Adidas sent him a couple of pairs before his regular shipment is scheduled to arrive, so he should be good to go on Wednesday. The 36-year-old slugger got off to a slow start with the Mets but has been killing it lately. On the season, he’s slashing .278/.360/.493 with 10 homers and 37 RBI in 56 games.

Jays’ manager John Schnieder told reporters that he’ll be shut down completely for the next six weeks before he’s able to resume throwing. That means there’s no certainty that he’ll be able to return before the end of the 2024 season. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues without IL spots can safely cut bait on the 31-year-old closer. Expect Chad Green to continue holding down the fort in the ninth inning for the time being.

It looks to be a routine day off for the 22-year-old shortstop. Tovar has slumped recently after a very strong start to the season, hitting just .205/.244/.231 with no homers, one RBI and a 14/2 K/BB ratio over 41 plate appearances in his last nine games. Aaron Schunk will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against Colin Rea and the Brewers on Wednesday evening at Coors Field.

The 28-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment over the weekend and passed through waivers unclaimed, but rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he’ll peddle his wares on the open market instead. Bickford holds a 2.93 ERA over 22 appearances at Triple-A this season, so it shouldn’t take him long to find a new gig.

Bellozo was hit hard against the Red Sox allowing five runs in his start for the Marlins on Tuesday and Miami decided they’d seen enough for now. He had a 4.50 ERA in 10 innings since being called up last week. Anthony Maldonado was recalled to take Bellozo’s roster spot.

The Marlins are bringing Maldonado back after the right-hander was sent down in May. He had a 3.75 ERA in 10 appearances with Miami this season. Valente Bellozo was optioned to Triple-A as the corresponding move.

Jordan went 1-for-10 with a double and one RBI in seven games with Cincinnati this year. The Reds had to make room for Blake Dunn, who has more experience in the outfield.

Dunn hit .228 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 55 games at Triple-A this year. He’ll get another chance with this being his second stint with the Reds this year. Levi Jordan was optioned to Triple-A as the corresponding move.

A 29th round pick by the Red Sox in the 2017 MLB Draft, Dearden has been playing in the independent league this season. He was hitting .361 with 12 home runs in 55 games with the Long Island Ducks. Dearden will serve as organizational depth for Minnesota.
