  • STL Catcher #70
Cardinals optioned C Nick Raposo to Triple-A Memphis.
With Willson Contreras coming off the IL, the Cardinals are sending Raposo back down the Memphis. Pedro Pagés will remain the back-up catcher behind Contreras.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #62
Red Sox acquired RHP Trey Wingenter from the Tigers for RHP CJ Weins.
The 30-year-old hurler has logged 87 innings at the big-league level in his career including 17 for the Tigers during the 2023 season. He has spent the 2024 campaign exclusively at Triple-A Toledo where he has posted a 3.31 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and a 48/17 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 frames. He’ll add organizational bullpen depth for the Red Sox.
  • DET Relief Pitcher
Tigers acquired RHP CJ Weins from the Red Sox for RHP Trey Wingenter.
Weins, 23, was a sixth-round pick by the Red Sox from the 2023 draft class. He has struggled in his first taste of Single-A ball this season, posting a 4.81 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 29/16 K/BB ratio over 24 1/3 innings. Apparently, the Tigers see something they like in him though and believe that he can add valuable bullpen depth in their organization.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #48
Pirates’ manager Derek Shelton confirmed Saturday that right-hander Luis Ortiz will start on Sunday against the Mets.
The 25-year-old hurler was terrific in his last start, piling up seven strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball against the Reds on June 26. His last time out was out of the bullpen, where he threw 30 pitches while punching out four batters over two innings of one-run baseball. It sounds like with Jared Jones shelved, Ortiz may finally get treated as a traditional starter which would be a major boon to his fantasy value.
  • STL Shortstop #0
Masyn Winn went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI against the Nationals on Saturday.
Winn has a hit in six straight games and is 11-for-27 (.407) in that time. He drove in Nolan Gorman with an RBI single in the third inning and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Nolan Arenado. He scored again on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. Winn is hitting .294 with a .761 OPS and 30 RBI on the season.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and three runs scored against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Abrams started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning and the route was on from there as the Nationals cruised to a 14-6 victory. It was his 14th home run of the season. Abrams is hitting .280 with an .856 OPS and 46 RBI on the season.
  • WAS Left Fielder #29
James Wood went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Wood hit his first double and home run in the major leagues in this game. He clubbed a three-run home run off Lance Lynn in the bottom of the second inning to make it 7-0 Nationals. In the third inning, he knocked in two more runs with a double. In 23 at-bats, he’s hitting .304 with an .885 OPS for Washington.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #1
Mackenzie Gore allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Nationals’ 14-6 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday.
Gore gave up six hits, walked five and struck out five. The Nationals led 9-0 after two innings and Gore still couldn’t complete the necessary five innings to get the win. He’s allowed five runs in two of his last three starts and has a 3.83 ERA on the year. The 25-year-old left-hander is set to face the Mets on the road next week.
  • SEA Center Fielder #44
Julio Rodríguez is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam after leaving Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays in the first inning due to discomfort in his lower right quad area.
The 23-year-old outfielder looked uncomfortable while tracking a fly ball in the outfield during the top half of the first inning, then he was replaced by Ty France before he had a chance to take hit first at-bat. The Mariners should have the results of his imaging before Sunday’s game, so expect another update on his status before then.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #31
Lance Lynn allowed 11 runs (10 earned) in 2 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Nationals on Saturday.
Lynn gave up nine hits, walked four and struck out two. Lynn had won back-to-back starts and seemed to be putting together a nice season before it all came crashing down against the Nationals. He allowed three home runs and looked more like he did last year when he had a 5.73 ERA and allowed 44 home runs. Lynn’s ERA increased nearly a full run from 3.59 to 4.48 with this outing. The 37-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cubs at home next weekend.
  • NYM Catcher #13
Luis Torrens went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and 3 RBI against the Pirates on Saturday.
It doesn’t get much better for backup catchers. Torrens cleared the bases with a double in the third inning. He added two singles later on. He’s hitting .317 with three home runs and eight RBI in 41 at-bats for the Mets this year.
