  • WAS Starting Pitcher #27
Jake Irvin allowed one run on three hits in six innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Sunday.
Irvin also struck out 10 and walked just one. His only blemish was a solo home run to Michael Toglia in the second inning. It was a tremendous effort for the 27-year-old in Coors Field, posting a 39 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. Irvin has let his curveball lead of late, which is a great decision since he commands the pitch well and he can also miss bats with it. He likely will remain a high-end streamer rather than a must-roster player, but that can still be valuable with offense down around the league. He should be started next week against the Rays.
  • BOS Third Baseman #11
Rafael Devers drove in two runs while walking three times in a victory over the Marlins in extra-innings Thursday.
  • MIA Left Fielder #12
Jesús Sánchez doubled, tripled and homered in an extra-inning loss to the Red Sox on Thursday.
  • BOS Right Fielder #17
Tyler O’Neill went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two stolen bases in a 6-5 win over the Marlins on Thursday in 12 innings.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #57
Greg Weissert allowed an unearned run while picking up a save against the Marlins on Thursday.
The run was the “zombie” runner that starts at second base to begin every inning after the ninth. That’s the first save of the season for Weissert, and being blunt, it’s very likely the last.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #73
Kyle Tyler gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Thursday.
Tyler gave up just three hits throughout the contest, and he walked two while fanning three. The right-hander gave up a run on a fielder’s choice in the first by Rafael Devers, and Devers grounded out again for a run in the sixth; this time after Tyler had left the game. The results have been fine for the 27-year-old since joining the Miami rotation, but there appears to be some smoke and mirrors to it without much swing-and-miss. It’d be a mistake to trust him as an option against the Astros next week.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #37
Nick Pivetta struck out 10 while allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings, but he didn’t pick up a decision against the Marlins on Thursday.
Pivetta took a no-no into the seventh inning, but he gave up his first hit with two outs in that frame on a triple to Jesus Sanchez. It was a dominating effort for the 31-year-old, and nice to see after a run of mediocre starts for the right-hander. It certainly helped that he was facing a well-below-average lineup in Miami, but Pivetta’s stuff would’ve beaten most Thursday. Unfortunately, the bullpen didn’t get the job done. Pivetta gets another favorable matchup on paper next week against the A’s.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #58
Twins optioned RHP David Festa to Triple-A St. Paul.
Festa heads back to the minors after allowing a whopping 12 runs on 16 hits with an 8/1 K/BB ratio across 10 innings in a pair of starts after being called up back on. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect will head back to Triple-A for some additional seasoning, but he’s certainly talented enough to make a tangible impact for fantasy managers at some point in the near future.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #62
Twins re-signed RHP Diego Castillo to a minor league contract.
It seems there weren’t too many other opportunities out there for Castillo after electing free agency back in mid-June. The 30-year-old righty is back in the fold with Minnesota as extra organizational relief depth after making five appearances for the Twins earlier this year.
  • PIT Catcher #32
Henry Davis (concussion) will resume a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Indianapolis.
Davis was asymptomatic earlier this week when he resumed catching bullpen sessions and will get back into minor-league game action on Thursday night. The 24-year-old backstop has been out since mid-June recovering from a concussion.
  • ATL Shortstop #11
Orlando Arcia (tooth) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Giants.
Arcia hasn’t played since last weekend and underwent a dental procedure earlier this week to address an abscessed tooth. The 29-year-old shortstop figures to be ready to return at some point in the coming days.
