Cardinals recalled RHP Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis.
Kloffenstein provides St. Louis with some extra long relief depth behind Thursday’s starter Andre Pallante. The 23-year-old righty earns his first promotion to the majors after compiling a respectable 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 68/29 K/BB ratio over 77 innings (14 starts) this season for Triple-A Memphis.

Buddy Kennedy elected free agency after being sent outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies designated Kennedy for assignment Monday, and he went unclaimed. The 26-year-old will now be free to choose a new organization, but he’ll likely be looking for a minor league contract.
Hold Muncy if placed on injured list
Eric Samulski advises fantasy managers to "hold" Max Muncy if placed on the injured list, who has produced in a big way since the beginning of May, and discusses the outlook for Dodgers' call-up Esteury Ruiz.

Chris Devenski will start Sunday’s game against the Yankees for the Mets.
It’ll be a bullpen day for the Mets as they look to get innings from a starting staff that has been decimated by injuries. He’ll likely go an inning or two before giving way to another arm, so there’ll be no chance for Devenski to pick up a win.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #12
Casey Mize blanked the Guardians for seven innings Saturday to earn his ninth win as the Tigers prevailed 1-0.
Mize allowed four hits, walked two and struck out four in his third straight win. As effective as he’s been this year, this is the first time he’s gone without allowing a run since his opener against the Mariners on Apr. 1. His only other career start of at least seven scoreless innings came on Apr. 12, 2021 against the Astros. Mize is tied for third in the majors in wins, and he would be 12th in ERA if he weren’t five innings short of qualifying. That’s a solid All-Star case.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #43
Tommy Kahnle worked a hitless ninth against the Guardians for his ninth save Saturday.
Will Vest appeared to be unavailable tonight after throwing 32 pitches the previous two days. Pitching in a 1-0 game, Kahnle walked a batter with two outs, but he retired the other three guys he faced. He’ll likely get to rest Sunday after working back-to-back days, but West should be back if there’s a save chance.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Logan Allen took a loss in a 1-0 game Saturday after allowing two hits in six innings against the Tigers.
One of the two hits was a Spencer Torkelson homer. Still, Allen deserved better in this one. It’s the fourth time in Allen’s 16 starts that the Guardians have been shut out, and he dropped to 5-7 with a 4.07 ERA. He’s due to face the White Sox next week.
  • DET 1st Baseman #20
Spencer Torkelson homered for the only run in the Tigers’ 1-0 victory over the Guardians on Saturday.
He also singled. He could have added to the Tigers’ margin for error in the ninth, but up with the bases loaded and one out, he grounded into a double play against Tim Herrin. The homer off Logan Allen was Torkelson’s third in five games this month and 20th overall.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #52
Giants selected the contract of LHP Scott Alexander from Triple-A Sacramento.
Alexander was signed by the Giants after being released by the Rockies in June. The southpaw will be a middle-inning option with Erik Miller placed on the injured list with an elbow sprain.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #68
Giants placed LHP Erik Miller on the 10-day injured list with a left elbow sprain.
Miller will be out through at least the All-Star break, but there’s a good chance this will require more than just a two-week stint on the shelf. He’ll recover while Scott Alexander takes his spot on the roster.
  • NYM 1st Baseman #20
Pete Alonso homered twice to drive in five runs Saturday as the Mets doubled up the Yankees 12-6.
Alonso had a two-run homer off Carlos Rodón in the fifth and then a three-run shot off Jayvien Sandridge that pretty much put the game away in the seventh. It’s his 24th career two-homer game and 12th with five RBI. He’s back up third in the majors with 73 RBI; both he and Eugenio Suárez are two behind Seiya Suzuki and one back of Cal Raleigh.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #47
Frankie Montas notched his first win as a Met after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday against the Yankees.
Montas settled for only two strikeouts today, but he walked none and both homers he gave up were solo shots. That worked out just fine on a day in which the Mets scored four runs in the first and 12 runs overall. Montas is now 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA in three starts since returning from his lat injury. He’ll face the Royals next time out.
