  • HOU Center Fielder #6
Jake Meyers went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in the Astros 4-1 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.
Meyers doubled in the sixth and came around to score on a base hit by César Salazar. He then led off the eighth with another double before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Chas McCormick. The 25-year-old outfielder is slashing .254/.312/.418 with six homers, 25 RBI, and six steals across 206 plate appearances.
  • DET Catcher #15
Carson Kelly clobbered a grand slam in the third inning on Wednesday night, powering the Tigers to a 9-2 victory over the Twins in Minneapolis.
Kelly broke up a scoreless tie when he crushed a 387-foot (103.5 mph EV) grand slam off of David Festa in the third inning. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the night, but was all the offense that Keider Montero and company would require in this one. On the season, the 29-year-old backstop is now hitting .245/.321/.406 with six homers and 25 RBI. He’s looking increasingly likely to be dealt in advance of the trade deadline at the end of the month.
  • DET Center Fielder #31
Riley Greene went 3-for-4 with a homer, triple and two RBI on Wednesday evening, helping to lead the Tigers to victory over the Twins.
Greene smacked a two-out triple in the first inning, but the Tigers were unable to cash him in. He then reached on an infield single to load the bases with two outs in the third inning, then rode home on Carson Kelly’s grand slam. He also clubbed a 427-foot (111.8 mph EV) two-run blast off of David Festa in the fifth inning that extended the Tigers’ lead to 7-1. With the three-hit attack, the dynamic 23-year-old outfielder is now hitting .260/.354/.497 with a team-leading 16 homers, 43 RBI and four stolen bases on the year.
  • DET Left Fielder #8
Matt Vierling went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer and a pair of runs scored on Wednesday as the Tigers triumphed over the Twins in Minnesota.
Showing no ill-effects of the foot issue that kept him out of the lineup on Sunday and Tuesday, Vierling bunted into a fielder’s choice in the third inning and rode home on Carson Kelly’s grand slam. He then did a little yard work of his own, crushing a 386-foot (108.9 mph EV) two-run shot off of Kody Funderburk in the ninth inning that capped off the scoring in the contest. On the season, he’s now hitting .249/.284/.443 with 11 homers and 35 RBI.
  • DET Starting Pitcher
Keider Montero earned the first victory of his MLB career on Wednesday, limiting the Twins to two runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.
The 23-year-old hurler punched out four batters on the night while allowing just one base on balls. He served up a solo homer to Christian Vazquez in the third inning then kept the Twins’ offense at bay until Brooks Lee delivered an RBI single in the seventh. Montero got eight swings and misses on 80 pitches on the evening — five on his slider — while posting a CSW of 33 percent. He’ll attempt to further improve upon his 6.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 15/5 K/BB ratio (15 innings) when he does battle against the Guardians next week.
  • MIN Shortstop #80
Brooks Lee had a memorable MLB debut in Wednesday’s loss to the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
After taking a called third strike from Keider Montero in his first at-bat, Lee shot a sharp single into center field in the fourth inning for his first big-league hit. He added his first RBI in the seventh inning, plating Byron Buxton with a single to center. He’s going to play on a nightly basis with Royce Lewis (groin) shelved and deserves consideration in all mixed leagues.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #58
David Festa was obliterated in Wednesday night’s loss to the Tigers, giving up seven runs on nine hits over his five frames.
On the plus side for fantasy managers, Festa piled up six strikeouts on the night and didn’t walk a batter. His trouble in this one came from his inability to keep the ball in the yard as he served up a grand slam to Carson Kelly in the third inning, a solo shot to Wenceel Perez in the third and a two-run blast off the bat of Riley Greene in the fifth. Festa got 13 swings and misses on 81 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries an uninspiring 10.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and an 8/1 K/BB ratio (10 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the White Sox in Chicago.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in the Astros’ 9-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Alvarez came into this game ready for Yusei Kikuchi’s fastball and twice put first pitch fastballs in play, once for a homer, and also worked a long at-bat that wound up in a double also off that same fastball. He also sliced another double late off Bowden Francis to break this game open for Houston. Watching him hit is a marvel.
  • TOR Center Fielder #25
Daulton Varsho went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Wednesday against the Astros.
The Blue Jays once again shook up their lineup and Varsho landed in the fifth spot with George Springer back to lead-off and Bo Bichette fourth. Regardless, it still could not spark their struggling offense. Varsho briefly got his average back above the Mendoza-line before it sunk back to .199. He and nearly every Blue Jays’ hitter has been a disappointment this season.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #16
Yusei Kikuchi allowed two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Astros. He struck out five and walked two in a no-decision.
Kikuchi was cruising right along until the sixth inning when Yordan Alvarez smacked a lead-off homer and Jeremy Peña’s two-out double forced him from the game. Those who play in quality start leagues will surely be frustrated, but Kikuchi still had a solid start. His fastball had great life and averaged over 96 MPH for the fourth straight start as he mixed his curveball, changeup, and slider off it nicely.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #56
Ronel Blanco lasted 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Blue Jays. He allowed two runs while striking out four and walking two in a no-decision.
Blanco was just fine in this one. He had some trouble finding the zone with his breaking balls and the Blue Jays worked some long and tough at-bats against him. He fell one out short of a quality start and the Astros pulled ahead in the seventh inning giving him no chance for the win despite a decent outing. He’ll take a 2.53 ERA into his next scheduled start against the Marlins.
