  • TEX Relief Pitcher #57
Rangers recalled RHP Yerry Rodriguez from Triple-A Round Rock.
Rodriguez gives the Rangers a fresh arm in the bullpen, and he’ll take the roster spot of Cole Winn with Winn heading back to the minors as the corresponding transaction.
  • SD Center Fielder #3
Jackson Merrill is starting in center field and batting third for the Padres on Thursday.
This is Merrill’s first start as a three-hole hitter and it’s certainly earned after he hit .320/.346/.650 in June with nine home runs, 17 runs, 20 RBI, and two steals in 28 games. If that power holds up and he continues to hit in the middle of the order, his fantasy stock will rise dramatically.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #34
Marlins recalled RHP Matt Andriese from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Andriese has a 4.78 ERA in 32 innings at Triple-A this season, but the Marlins bullpen was taxed against the Red Sox and needed some fresh arms. Anthony Maldonado was sent down to make room.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #52
Marlins optioned RHP Anthony Maldonado to Triple-A Jacksonville
Maldonado was recalled from the minors on Wednesday but allowed four runs on three hits in one inning against the Red Sox and will now return to the minors. Quite a rollercoaster of a day. Matt Andriese will take his place on the active roster.
  • MIA Third Baseman #41
Marlins recalled INF Jonah Bride from Triple-A Jacksonville.
With Otto Lopez heading to the IL, Jonah Bride will come up and take his spot on the roster. Vidal Brujan should continue to start at second base, which means Bride will just be a bench bat while he’s up with the big club.
  • MIA Second Baseman #61
Marlins placed INF Otto Lopez on the 10-day IL with lower back inflammation.
Lopez has been starting regularly at second base before sitting out the last three games with his back injury. Vidal Brujan has been playing second in Lopez’s absence and should continue to see every day at bats while Lopez is out.
  • CLE Shortstop #8
Guardians optioned INF José Tena to Triple-A Columbus.
The 23-year-old had just four plate appearances in three games with the Guardians this season, and he will head to the minors with Angel Martinez coming up. Tena will return to an impressive .293/.341/.480 slash line with 14 home runs and 10 steals in 73 games this season.
  • CLE Second Baseman #1
Guardians recalled INF Angel Martínez from Triple-A Columbus
Martínez went 2-for-7 in his first taste of MLB action earlier this season and was hitting .316/.416/.537 at Triple-A with five home runs and two steals in 26 games. The 22-year-old is one of the Guardians’ top-hitting prospects, so there is a chance he could find himself with a decent amount of playing time in this stint with the big club. However, he is a contact-first player who has never hit over 14 home runs or stolen more than 11 bases in any season, so his fantasy ceiling might not be that high.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #52
Guardians activated Nick Sandlin (lower back inflammation) from the 15-day IL.
Sandlin had a 2.54 ERA heading into his final appearance before the injury, but he battled through a back injury en route to letting up three runs in that outing. Sandlin will return to a central role in the Guardians’ bullpen.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #49
Guardians optioned Eli Morgan to Triple-A Columbus
Morgan was called on to pitch two innings last night with Gavin Williams struggling against the White Sox, so the Guardians are sending him down to get a fresh arm up for the bullpen. Morgan has a 1.98 ERA in 13 2/3 innings this season and remains a key part of the Guardians bullpen. He’ll be back up soon. Nick Sandlin was activated from the 15-day IL to take his place.
  • TOR Shortstop #49
Leo Jimenez is starting at second base and batting eighth on Thursday against the Astros.
This will be Jimenez’s MLB debut after he was called up on Tuesday when Isiah Kiner-Falefa went on the IL. Jimenez was hitting .271/.416/.431 in 57 games at Triple-A with seven home runs and three steals. The 23-year-old profiles as a strong defender and good contact hitter but lacks the power to be an everyday player. As such, he’s probably off the fantasy radar, even in AL-only formats.
