The Yankees will select the contract of catcher/infielder Ben Rice before Tuesday’s game against the Orioles.
Rice will be called up with Anthony Rizzo heading to the injured list due to the fracture in Rizzo’s arm. The 25-year-old has hit well in his 60 minor-league games in 2024 with a .925 OPS, 15 homers and nine stolen bases. He’s made just 11 appearances above Double-A, but he’s slashed .333/.440/.619 in those chances with three homers in 42 at-bats. Rice has offensive upside, and he’s worth a look in most fantasy formats.

Reds activated LHP Nick Lodolo from the 15-day injured list.
Lodolo is back after missing close to three weeks with a blister on his left index finger, and he’ll start Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers. The 27-year-old has pitched very well in 2025, but keep in mind that this is a tougher matchup even before considering the absence.
Crochet, Skubal neck and neck for AL Cy Young
Vaughn Dalzell examines the AL Cy Young race and who has the advantage between Boston's Garrett Crochet and Detroit's Tarik Skubal.
  • WSH Catcher #81
Drew Millas left Wednesday’s game against the Yankees with a fractured and dislocated left index finger.
The injury occurred when Millas was hit in the finger on a swing from Austin Wells. A trip to the injured list for the 27-year-old backstop seems very likely, but for now Riley Adams has taken over behind the plate.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #57
Mets recalled RHP Kevin Herget from Triple-A Syracuse.
Herget will be a middle-inning option in his latest stint with the Mets. A corresponding move should be announced shortly.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #47
Cardinals placed LHP John King on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 26, with a mid back strain.
King was just activated off the injured list Sunday after recovering from his oblique strain. The 30-year-old’s season could be over, but he’ll be eligible to return to St. Louis in the middle of September.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #65
Cardinals recalled RHP Andre Granillo from Triple-A Memphis.
Granillo takes the roster spot of John King, as King was placed on the injured list with a back strain. Granillo has forged a 4.82 ERA in his 18 2/3 innings with St. Louis, and likely will work in the middle innings.
  • BAL Shortstop #65
Orioles designated INF Vimael Machín for assignment.
Machín’s time on the Orioles roster was short and not particularly sweet. The 31-year-old is now off the 40-man roster, and the Orioles selected the contract of Emmanuel Rivera to take his spot. Machín will now be on the waiver wire.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #63
Orioles transferred LHP Brandon Young from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Young will miss the rest of the 2025 season with his hamstring strain. The 27-year-old had some solid moments in 2025, but some real clunkers to go with them. He’ll likely compete for a backend rotation spot in 2026, assuming good health.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #76
Orioles optioned RHP Yarami Hiraldo to Triple-A Norfolk.
Hiraldo was awful while allowing three runs in his 1 1/3 innings of work Tuesday against Boston, and the Orioles recalled Roansy Contreras to take his spot on the roster. Hiraldo could be back when rosters expand.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #26
Orioles selected the contract of INF Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A Norfolk.
Rivera, 29, was designated for assignment at the start of July, but Baltimore needs some infield depth and he’ll head back as a reserve for the time being.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #34
Orioles selected the contract of RHP Roansy Contreras.
Contreras will be making a bulk relief appearance Wednesday versus the Red Sox. He was an intriguing option a few years ago. It’s no longer a few years ago.
