Carson Spiers surrendered four runs over six innings on Monday in a loss to the Pirates.
Spiers held his own in this one, but was simply out-dueled by Pirates sensation Paul Skenes, who limited Cincinnati’s lineup to just one run over six frames. The 26-year-old righty put together the longest outing of his career to date, which is impressive since he was seemingly on the ropes in the opening frame when Pittsburgh got to him for three runs. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. It’s unclear whether he’ll get another turn in the Reds’ starting rotation, but he’s in line to take the ball on Sunday afternoon against the Red Sox.
