  • SD Starting Pitcher #98
Randy Vásquez was lit up for six runs over 4 1/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Phillies.
Vásquez was tagged for an astounding 12 hits, including a pair of homers, and was saddled with his fourth loss of the year. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. The 25-year-old righty is not a recommended fantasy option when he takes the ball on Saturday against the Brewers.
  • SD Shortstop
Padres SS prospect Leodalis De Vries went 3-for-4 with two homers on Friday for Low-A Lake Elsinore.
De Vries is one of the youngest players in the entire California League at just 17 years old and continues to impress. The top-ranked prospect from last year’s international signing class homered from both sides of the plate on Friday night and is now batting .218 with three homers and eight steals through 44 games. Those numbers might not seem impressive, but we have to factor in that he’s nearly a presidential term younger than most of the competition he’s facing at the moment. He’s quickly emerging as one of the top dynasty prospects in the fantasy landscape and is venturing closer to top-100 overall status in those formats already given his talent and age.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #54
    Guardians released RHP Adam Oller.
Oller inked a minor league pact with Cleveland last November and never wound up making it back to the big leagues after making 28 appearances (15 starts) for the Athletics over the previous two seasons. The 29-year-old righty struggled this season in 12 appearances (six starts) for Triple-A Columbus prior to being cut loose.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #73
Mets sent RHP Matt Festa outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Festa will remain with the Mets as extra organizational depth after going unclaimed on waivers. The 31-year-old righty made just one relief appearance for New York after being called up back on June 30.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #77
    Guardians released RHP Zak Kent.
Kent passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last weekend and will search for a new opportunity elsewhere. The 26-year-old was picked up back in March in a small trade with the Rangers and didn’t end up making an appearance for the Guardians.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #58
Blue Jays released LHP Tim Mayza.
Mayza was officially cut loose on Friday after no team picked him up off waivers. The 32-year-old southpaw was a key fixture in Toronto’s relief mix over the last few years, but fell off a cliff this season with an inflated 8.03 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 16/12 K/BB ratio across 24 2/3 innings (35 appearances). It’s possible he’ll land somewhere else in the coming days, most likely on a minor league deal.
  • FA Shortstop #7
    Marlins released SS Tim Anderson.
No team was willing to take on the remainder of Anderson’s salary after he was waived earlier this week by the Marlins. After two consecutive dismal campaigns at the dish, it’s possible he won’t get another shot in the majors moving forward. It’s been a sudden precipitous decline for the 31-year-old shortstop, who was one of the premier performers at his position just a few years ago. He might be able to latch on somewhere on a minor league deal, but that’s probably it at this stage of his career.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #39
Mets activated RHP Edwin Díaz from the restricted list.
Díaz has finished serving an automatic 10-game suspension handed down by the league after he was ejected back on June 23 for using an illegal foreign substance. The 30-year-old will be back in New York’s bullpen for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates.
  • HOU Third Baseman #2
Alex Bregman went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two walks Friday as the Astros edged the Twins 13-12.
Bregman’s seemingly meaningless homer made it a 13-5 game in the ninth before the Twins almost came all of the way back in the bottom of the inning. It was Bregman’s first homer since June 3 and 10th of the year. At .251/.314/.403, he’s been essentially a league-average hitter halfway through his walk year.
  • HOU Relief Pitcher #71
Josh Hader recorded his 15th save despite giving up a grand slam to one of the two batters he faced in the ninth Friday against the Twins.
Carlos Correa hit the slam to make it a 13-12 game, but Hader then struck out Manuel Margot to end it. The homer was the seventh allowed by Hader in 39 innings, but since none of the runners on base belonged to him, his ERA only slightly increased to 3.92.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #49
Pablo López was tagged for six runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.
López didn’t allow any extra-base hits tonight, but the singles were all bunched together. Four came in a three-run second inning that featured just one hard-hit ball. The remaining three runs all scored in the sixth after he allowed three singles to begin the inning and was pulled. The loss leaves him 8-7 with a 5.17 ERA, but that just makes him an excellent buy-low candidate in fantasy leagues,
