The move frees up another spot on the Marlins’ 40-man roster — which is now down to 37 players — as they attempt to decide who to protect for the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

Morosi notes that while the Dodgers, Braves, Giants and Red Sox all make sense as suitors given their vacancies at shortstop, he also adds that the Yankees, Blue Jays and Astros are believed to be interested in Adames as a third baseman. The 29-year-old slugger is coming off of his finest season as a professional, setting new career highs in home runs (31), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (93). He should wind him hitting in the middle of a contender’s lineup so regardless of his landing spot expect Adames to remain as a fringe top-10 option at the shortstop position in fantasy drafts.

Kato, 25, was well-traveled during the 2024 season. He appeared in one game in the Astros’ organization at Double-A Corpus Christi, 32 games for the Mariners across three minor league affiliates and 64 games with the York Revolution in the independent Atlantic League. All told, he slashed .283/.393/.389 with one homer, 17 RBI, eight swipes and a 34/18 K/BB ratio across 135 plate appearances in affiliated ball. He’ll add minor league infield depth for the Braves.

The 52-year-old was cut loose by the Reds in late September after his squad stumbled down the stretch and missed the postseason. He brings with him a wealth of experience in the game and should be an asset to the Jays’ front office where he will oversee player development. No word on the financials or the duration of the contract.

Herron, 28, spent each of the past four seasons in the Rockies’ organization. In 2024, he slashed a solid .283/.362/.459 with 15 homers, 72 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 427 plate appearances across 98 games mostly at Triple-A Albuquerque. He could wind up being an intriguing bench bat given his combination of power and speed, but first he’ll have to crack a very crowded Brewers’ outfield mix.

The versatile 24-year-old had a nice season for the Guardians’ Triple-A affiliate in 2024, slashing .275/.365/.426 with nine homers, 44 RBI, 22 stolen bases and an 85/38 K/BB ratio over 345 plate appearances. He’ll fight for a spot on the Brewers’ Opening Day bench.

The 30-year-old hurler had a brutal regular season in his return from Tommy John surgery but turned things around in the postseason and wound up closing out the final game of the World Series for the Dodgers. While there should be plenty of teams interested in his services this winter, it’s unclear if he’ll find the lucrative multi-year contract that he’s looking for or will have to settle for a one-year prove-it type of deal before hitting the market again next season.

Graderol underwent the operation with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, and Graterol said that everything went well. It’s another setback for the 26-year-old, who missed almost all of the 2024 season but showed well in the World Series. It’s not known yet how much time Graterol will miss after the operation, but it’s a safe bet that this will cut into the start of his season.

Elias also said the same for Kyle Bradish (elbow). Both Wells and Bradish were unable to contribute much in 2025 because of their UCL injuries, but both have a chance to have some fantasy relevance — even if only for half a season — with the team playing behind them. Neither misses a ton of bats, however, so they’re more of players you should monitor rather than considering them as a potential draft pick.
