Red Sox transferred RHP Garrett Whitlock from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Whitlock is now off the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old right-hander will miss the rest of 2024 as he underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow in late May. His next chance to pitch will likely come in the early portion of the 2025 campaign.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17

Shohei Ohtani (elbow) threw his third bullpen session of the spring without any issues on Saturday.
The dynamic two-way superstar continues to build back up as he finishes his recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. The Dodgers’ plan is that he’ll be ready to join the rotation at some point in early May. Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts also told reporters on Saturday that Ohtani will make his Cactus League debut as the club’s designated hitter by the end of next week.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #7
Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that Blake Snell will make his Cactus League debut on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old southpaw inked a massive five-year, $182 million contract with the Dodgers in late November, adding a two-time Cy Young Award winner to what was already one of the best rotations in all of baseball. While he has been inconsistent at times over the years, Snell’s fantasy stock will certainly be boosted by having one of the best offenses in the league providing support for him. Snell has been a fringe top 50 selection in fantasy drafts as the 12th starting pitcher off the board on average.
  • MIL Center Fielder #16
Blake Perkins will be shut down for the next 3-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a fractured right shin.
Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Saturday that Perkins will likely be out until at least early May, barring any setbacks. The 28-year-old reserve outfielder suffered the injury, which will keep him shut down fully for at least a few weeks to heal completely, earlier this week when he fouled a ball off his right shin during a live batting practice session. His absence creates a lane for veteran Manuel Margot to potentially make the season-opening roster in a reserve role.
  • BOS Third Baseman #2
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Alex Bregman will play third base on Sunday in Grapefruit League action.
Rafael Devers isn’t ready to play third base yet this spring as he continues to work his way back into game shape from an offseason shoulder issues, so it’ll be Bregman getting the nod at the hot corner to open spring training. Cora likely won’t face a decision regarding his starting third baseman for at least a few weeks until there is some clarity regarding whether Devers is healthy enough to play the hot corner on Opening Day. It’s a developing situation fantasy managers should continue to monitor.
  • Royals C prospect Blake Mitchell is out 4-6 weeks with a broken right hamate bone.
Mitchell has been somewhat usurped in Kansas City by the emergence of fellow prospect Carter Jensen at the position, but he’s one of the more promising young backstops in the game. The 20-year-old, who was selected eighth overall in the 2023 MLB Draft, will undergo surgery at some point next week, which will keep him on the shelf until at least late March.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #37
Jared Jones is experimenting with a two-seam fastball.
One of the most electrifying young pitchers in the game, Jones has added a new wrinkle to his repertoire this spring, complementing his nearly triple-digit four-seamer and potent slider. The 23-year-old’s new offering would add some much-needed movement away from left-handed batters in addition to some arm-side run against righties. There are some workload questions after Jones was limited to just 22 starts last year as a rookie due to injury, but he’s one of the most dynamic young arms in the fantasy landscape with huge strikeout upside. He’s a borderline top 50-range option for fantasy purposes at the moment with the potential to see his value skyrocket this spring with a strong showing in Grapefruit League action.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #28
Bobby Miller told reporters Saturday that he’s still dealing with headaches and drowsiness.
Miller remains in concussion protocol after being struck in the head by a comebacker during Thursday’s Cactus League lid-lifter. There’s no timetable at this juncture for him to resume throwing, but he told reporters that “it could have been a lot worse.” It’s a relief that Miller didn’t suffer any facial fractures, but it could be a while this spring before he’s cleared to get back on the mound.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol told reporters Alec Burleson’s at-bats this spring will come at first base and DH.
The Cardinals are giving former top prospect Jordan Walker every opportunity this spring to emerge as their starting right fielder with Lars Nootbaar and Brendan Donovan in center and left field, respectively. Willson Contreras entering the mix at first base complicates his path to regular at-bats at the cold corner, but Burleson figures to start everyday at DH against right-handed pitching, in addition to batting near the top of St. Louis’ lineup.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher
Tomoyuki Sugano will make his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday against the Pirates.
Sugano will make his Orioles debut next week after signing a one-year, $13 million contract back in mid-December. The 35-year-old veteran doesn’t miss a ton of bats, but he’s dominated overseas in Japan with a command-oriented approach, and figures to provide Baltimore with a back-end rotation stabilizer. He doesn’t offer a ton of fantasy upside, but it wouldn’t be shocking if he outperformed expectations from a run-prevention standpoint in his Baltimore debut.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #53
Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) faced hitters on Friday in a 26-pitch live batting practice session.
Woodruff told reporters on Saturday he was up to 92 mph with his fastball during his latest throwing session, but didn’t speculate when he might be ready to make his Cactus League debut. The 32-year-old former fantasy ace appears to have made it all the way from shoulder surgery and seems to have a decent shot at being ready for Opening Day. He’s one of the big names to watch this spring for fantasy purposes since he can be a difference-maker again, if the stuff returns to pre-surgery levels.
