Giants designated OF Ryan McKenna for assignment.
Mckenna was claimed off waivers earlier this month from the Orioles and winds up getting jettisoned from San Francisco’s 40-man roster after going hitless in six at-bats over four contests.

Yankees optioned RHP Alan Winans to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
A corresponding move will be announced by the Yankees prior to Sunday’s game against the Phillies. Winans threw the final three innings of Saturday’s loss to Philadelphia, so New York needs a fresh arm for the bullpen.
Jones' power production can't be ignored
James Schiano evaluates the potential of New York Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones, explaining why the 24-year-old outfielder's power production can't be ignored as he's compiled 29 home runs in the minors this season.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #89
Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters that Tanner Houck is still getting opinions on his right flexor pronator strain.
Houck was shutdown indefinitely Monday, and while Cora told reporters that surgery isn’t currently on the table, it sounds like it’s becoming more of a possibility. The right-hander hasn’t been ruled out for the season just yet, and it’s possible he could return before 2025 comes to a conclusion. It just doesn’t seem very plausible that Houck pitches for Boston before 2026.
  • LAD Right Fielder #50
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Mookie Betts (personal) could be available off the bench Saturday against the Red Sox.
Betts is currently “wheels up” according to Roberts, meaning that he’s on the way to Boston right now. The 32-year-old likely won’t be used unless it’s an emergency, but it seems very likely that he’ll be back in the lineup for Sunday’s contest against his former club.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #39
Manuel Rodríguez will undergo Tommy John surgery August 8.
Rodríguez was fantastic prior to his forearm strain with a 2.08 ERA in 30 1/3 innings, but the right-hander will undergo the procedure and miss the rest of 2025 and the overwhelming majority of 2026 as well.
  • PHI Shortstop #33
Edmundo Sosa was removed from Saturday’s game against the Yankees with a back contusion.
Sosa will undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury, but Phillies manager Rob Thomson noted that he’s “feeling better” and could be available Sunday. The 29-year-old was already replacing Alec Bohm (rib) at third base, so if Sosa needs to miss time, it’s possible they’ll need to look externally for a potential third base option.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #21
Jake Burger (quad) will participate in hitting drills Saturday.
Burger is making progress from the quad injury that has sidelined him two weeks ago, and Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Burger is aiming for a return to the lineup August 8. It’s possible that the 29-year-old will need a rehab assignment, but this doesn’t appear to be an injury that will cause Burger to miss the rest of 2025.
  • TEX Left Fielder #4
Joc Pederson (hand) will be activated off the injured list before Sunday’s game against Atlanta.
Pederson has missed two months while dealing with a fractured right hand, but the 33-year-old will be back in action as the team’s designated hitter beginning Sunday. He wasn’t particularly effective prior to the injury, but those looking for some pop in the lineup could do worse than to give Pederson a look.
  • NYY Right Fielder #99
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Aaron Judge will be placed on the 10-day injured list with a flexor strain.
Boone said that when Judge does return, it’ll need to be as a designated hitter. The good news is that imaging revealed that there is no tear of the UCL. Boone also believes that it’s possible this will be a minimum stint for the reigning MVP. It’s possible the Yankees will give top prospect Spencer Jones a look while Judge recovers, and Boone noted that Giancarlo Stanton will start getting reps in the outfield as a potential look. There’s simply no replacing a player like Judge, however, who has homered 37 times and hit .342/.449/.711 in his 103 games prior to the injury.
  • ATH Shortstop #5
Jacob Wilson is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Astros.
Wilson will miss the second game of the four-game series, at least to start. The impressive rookie gets a break with Max Schuemann getting the start at shortstop while hitting eighth.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Bryce Harper clobbered his 15th home run of the season on Saturday, powering the Phillies to a lopsided 9-4 win over the Yankees.
Harper pounced all over a center-cut fastball from Yankees starter Marcus Stroman, sending a majestic 425-foot blast out to right field for his 15th round-tripper of the season. The 32-year-old fantasy stalwart has caught fire of late, hitting .305 (18-for-59) with six homers and nine RBI over his last 15 games.
