  • SF Third Baseman #26
Matt Chapman hit a three-run homer Thursday to help the Giants to a win over the Pirates.
Chapman remains hot, and his three-run blast off Hunter Stratton got San Francisco back in the game; turning a 6-2 deficit into a 6-5 game. The 31-year-old has homered eight times, and three of those blasts have come in his last three games. Chapman has been streaky for the majority of his career, and it appears he’s on the right side of things right now.
  • BAL First Baseman #6
Ryan Mountcastle didn’t play Sunday because he was ill, according to manager Brandon Hyde.
Mountcastle also didn’t play Saturday, but since he occasionally sits against right-handers, that went without any explanation. That he was absent tonight against a lefty demanded one. There was no additional comment about whether the Orioles expected him to return Tuesday.
  • TEX Left Fielder #36
Wyatt Langford hit for the cycle and drove in four runs as the Rangers bested the Orioles 11-2 on Sunday.
Langford had just 14 extra-base hits in 59 games this season before coming up with three tonight. The homer, his fourth, came in his fifth and final at-bat of the night. It caps off a fine June for Langford in which he hit .283/.347/.446 with two homers, 18 RBI and six steals in 25 games. Things will likely only keep getting better from here.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #44
Andrew Heaney pitched seven innings of two-run ball and struck out 10 Sunday in a win over the Orioles.
It’s just Heaney’s second win versus nine losses in 16 starts (he does have one more win from his lone relief appearance). We wouldn’t trust Heaney to finish the year in the rotation of a Rangers team that’s still hoping to get Tyler Mahle, Cody Bradford and Jacob deGrom back from the injured list, but he has a solid enough 4.06 ERA at the moment, and he’s a decent play with a home start against the Rays up next.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #19
Cole Irvin lasted just 3 2/3 innings and gave up five runs in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
Irvin seemed safe from being threatened by Dean Kramer’s return, but with three poor outings in a row taking his ERA from 3.03 to 4.17, a demotion to the pen is realistic. Albert Suárez and Cade Povich are the other two candidates to be bumped from the rotation.
  • TEX Center Fielder #40
Derek Hill launched a pair of homers against the Orioles in Sunday’s rout.
Hill has started four of five games since returning to the majors Wednesday and gone 5-for-14 with three homers. That’s just one fewer homer than he had in 289 career major league at-bats coming into last week. It’s unlikely that he’ll make much of an impact in shallow leagues going forward, but since he can steal bases and has a clear path to playing time in the Texas outfield, he could help in deeper formats.
  • BAL First Baseman #32
Starting against a lefty for the first time all season, Ryan O’Hearn went 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Rangers on Sunday.
We’re still not sure why O’Hearn played and Ryan Mountcastle sat tonight, but O’Hearn came through nicely, picking up all three of his hits against lefties. He had been 2-for-15 versus southpaws this season.
  • BAL Shortstop #2
Gunnar Henderson lost his 36-game on-base streak by striking out all four times up against the Rangers on Sunday.
All four strikeouts came against Andrew Heaney. It’s his first golden sombrero since Oct. 1, 2022.
  • ARI Catcher #16
The Diamondbacks have decided to move on from Tucker Barnhart with Gabriel Moreno coming off the IL on Tuesday.
Barnhart will be DFA’d, with Jose Herrera sticking around as Moreno’s backup. The 33-year-old has hit just .173/.287/.210 this season, though it’s not like that should have surprised the Diamondbacks; he came in at .215/.286/.264 the previous two years.
  • PIT Catcher #32
Henry Davis is having his rehab stint put on hold as he attempts to return from a concussion.
Davis was 0-for-6 with five strikeouts since joining Double-A Altoona on Wednesday. Expectations are that he’ll be optioned to Triple-A once healthy.
  • LAA Right Fielder #3
Angels manager Ron Washington said after the game that Taylor Ward was fine after being hit in the helmet by a pitch.
It sounds like Ward will be ready to go after the off day Monday. He left Sunday’s game in the ninth after a Shelby Miller fastball got him on the ear flap.
