  • FA Starting Pitcher #72
    Royals released RHP Zach Davies.
Davies latched on with Kansas City back in early April on a minor league pact, but never wound up making it back to the majors. The soft-tossing 31-year-old righty will head back to the open market in search of a new opportunity.
  • SEA Catcher #33
Mariners sent C Seby Zavala outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
It’s his second time being outrighted in the last few weeks. He has the choice of becoming a free agent, but he opted to stay with the Mariners last time around.
  • SF Relief Pitcher #56
Giants optioned LHP Kolton Ingram to Triple-A Sacramento.
Ingram didn’t pitch during his two days with the Giants. The move opens up a spot for Blake Snell, who will come off the injured list and start Tuesday.
  • STL Right Fielder #41
Alec Burleson went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and three RBI on Monday, powering the Cardinals to a 6-0 victory over the Nationals.
Burleson’s breakthrough campaign continued on Monday afternoon as he did most of his damage in the late stages of this one, blasting a solo homer -- his career-high 14th round-tripper of the season -- off Nationals reliever Jacob Barnes in the eighth inning to give the Cardinals a commanding three-run advantage at the time. He also tacked on a two-run single in the ensuing frame, just for good measure. The 25-year-old figures to continue playing regularly at designated hitter against right-handed pitching as he’s off to a stellar start this year, batting .283 with 14 homers and seven steals through 83 contests.
  • WAS Left Fielder #29
James Wood went 0-for-4 and struck out twice on Monday in the Nationals’ shutout loss at the hands of the Cardinals.
There are going to be plenty of days like this, even for the consensus top prospect in baseball. The 21-year-old slugger has been outstanding since being called up last week from Triple-A Rochester, batting .276 (8-for-29) with one homer, six RBI and one steal through eight games. He projects as a potential five-category fantasy monster in the future, especially if his contact gains over the last few months remain intact, and he’s making an impact already for fantasy managers right away with his impressive power/speed combination.
  • STL First Baseman #46
Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Monday in the Cardinals’ win over the Nationals.
Goldschmidt extended the Cardinals’ early lead with a solo shot -- his 12th big fly of the season -- off Nationals starter Mitchell Parker in the fourth inning. He also reached on a fielding error and came around to score on a Brendan Donovan double in the eighth inning as well. The 36-year-old veteran first baseman has gone deep only five times over his last 30 games and simply hasn’t produced enough so far this season to remain rostered in shallow mixed leagues.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #39
Miles Mikolas hurled 6 1/3 scoreless innings on Monday against the Nationals.
Mikolas carried a shutout into the seventh inning before being lifted at 93 pitches (66 strikes) following a one-out single by former teammate Juan Yepez. He finished with three strikeouts, didn’t hand out a free pass, and allowed only six hits in this one. The 35-year-old veteran righty has allowed just two runs over 12 1/3 innings over his last two starts following a 10-run (nine earned) implosion back on June 27 against the division-rival Reds. He’ll square off against the Cubs on Saturday at Busch Stadium in his final outing prior to the Midsummer Classic.
  • WAS Starting Pitcher #70
Mitchell Parker struck out six and was charged with two runs (one earned) over seven innings on Monday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Parker gave up six hits, including a fourth-inning solo shot to veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. He generated 11 swinging strikes, including six on his slider alone, and finished with a pedestrian 27 percent CSW. The 24-year-old lefty has emerged as a decent option for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues with a strong 3.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 74/19 K/BB ratio across 91 2/3 innings (16 starts). He’ll face off against the Brewers on Saturday to close out the first half.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Brock Stewart will begin a rehab stint with an appearance Tuesday for Triple-A St. Paul.
Stewart has been out since the beginning of May with shoulder tendinitis. Assuming no setbacks, he’ll probably be activated right after the break ends.
  • ARI Second Baseman #4
Ketel Marte is back at second base on Monday after missing two games with back tightness.
He’s hitting second, as per usual. Kevin Newman returns to the bench with Marte back.
  • TEX Right Fielder #53
After sitting Sunday, Adolis García has been dropped to fifth in the Texas lineup Monday, with Wyatt Langford replacing him in the cleanup spot.
It’s time. García has a .280 OBP overall and is hitting just .163/.255/.296 in his last 37 games since May 24. He’ll almost surely bounce back from this, but Langford probably ought to continue hitting ahead of him regardless.
